Bandwidth question (contention rate)

Mon Jan 30, 2006 4:06 pm

If I use a MT router with a 11Mbps(b) AP and have 10 clients connected to it, what speed can I expect from/to the clients. It's an outdoor installation, 15dbi omni & 15dbi yagis. Farthest point is about 2km.

So if you effectively get 6Mbps throughput, divide it between 10 clients and you get 600kbps, which is about what I get. But is that even if there is no other traffic? Only traffic (at one time) is copying a file from one client to another and I don't get more that 600kbps. Other 8 clients are connected, but no traffic. Is this correct? Shouldn't I get a bit more when the AP is 'quite'?

Thanks

This depends of clients connection quality.
If there is no traffic on that AP and client has a good signal you should get arround 5mbit/s.
If you want to transfer data between two clients on the same AP you should see at least 2mbit/s cause you'll send 2mbit/s and other client will receive 2mbit/s making this 4mbit/s all together.
So most likely the clients that has 600kbps have very low signals.
But then again, how do you know you don't have any traffic on that AP?
Traffic between clients on the same AP with same subnet can't be seen!!!
It stays on the card so MT will not have any record of it!
