NSTREME and DUAL-NSTREME on N cards, do you plan to solve it

Tue Oct 23, 2012 10:43 pm

Hi Mikrotik,
nstreme is great protocol in comparison with nv2(when nv2 is better for ptm), to build low latency ptp links. Also dual nstreme. But problem is that they dont work on N cards.
Do you plan to solve it? What about v6 - is possible to work there?

Agree.
nstreme is terrible on N cards.
If it doesn't drop all the time then throughput is low.
NV2 have great stability and throughput but have terrible and varying latency.
Please fix nstreme or add p2p option on nv2 protocol for low latency.

I dont have a problem using nstreme and I am using Dbi F52N-pro on one end and at the other a Ubiquity.

Distance 16km

30Mbps UDP each direction
14Mbps TCP both directions (simultaneous)

Ping time 1ms

Signal level -66/-69

Antenna both ends equal are 30dB grid

stable.

It is not so much throughoutput....using standard A card I get using nstreme or nv2 25mbit/s(one way)

SOrry just noticed distance 16km...

So dual-nstreme with N cards is usable or not? I have nstreme with n and its working ok:
n1.jpg
n2.jpg
(its real working link so test bandwidth isnt equal interface bandwith).
My plan is to upgrade it to dual-nstreme because i need more throughput.

log,
can you give me your nstreme parameters. I've been troubling with multihop for a while and I discovered that for some reason nstreme gives immunity to 802.11n / TCP related issues in multihop.

Last night I set my links to nstreme, framer limit 4000 and framer policy best fit. I get 130 / 24 Mbps of real traffic. But the link is stable so far (uptime over 16 hours).

What's your setup?

That was fast! Tnx!

Well, I actually find that framer_limit=3200 in my particular case causes wlans to loose connection every 5 - 10 min. When I increased it to 4000, the connection got stable. It appears to be individual and dependant on the situation. Btw, I use vpls/mpls instead of wds.

Regards!

Does vpls/mpls is better than wds? I saw somewhere that vpls/mpls is faster than wds but i dont know is it true.

In my experience, it performs far better. At least 40% better.
There is also an option to use bridge / station bridge combination. Create a bridge (rstp) and set ports wlan and eth. Set bridge_mode=enabled on wlan. Even this does better than wds for me, but somehow, mpls/vpls gets better results.

Mikrotik you could wake up and make protocol 10 years old update to be realizable on new cards and in new enviroment....
Dual Nstreme despite how old is, is very good protocol.
UBNT released device with 500/500Mbit speed for 5ghz (airfiber5), do you plan to make something similar?

I use airfiber24 it is so f.. awesome this AF5 looks so cool too(it has 8x signal streams). Soon there is going to be mini version of AF24 too up to 3 miles for short links very cheep.

And while we wait MT to fix/update nstreme !!???!!

ubnt released 5GHz 500/500mbit 256QAM device and I m waiting for almost 30 days somebody from support/forum to answer me a single question does RB911 (AR93xx) is going to support 30Mhz channel width or its chip limitation?

For the last one pls if someone knows tell me :). Thanks

MT definitively has to do some effort to make ptp links work better. NV2 reduces tcp-speed and adds some latency and nstreme no longer works reliable. Esp. the fact that newer ROS Versions make things go worse is no basis for a business. We have to progress not to step back.

it is big shame that there is only ubiquity and mikrotik in this segment relating to price.... more companies...more competition... Mikrotik needs to hire new employes, like ubiquiti does that. They hire just best persons from field...
