2.4ghz-B/G mode with CB3 clients

Mon May 08, 2006 11:03 am

I have a whole MT wireless network setup here. I am starting to use MT for clients also, and want to use 802.11g mode as well as B mode. I know the speed downgrades in most cases, but the B users are mostly daytime, while the G users are mostly nighttime.

I am only using 2.8.28 on my AP's except one which is using 2.9.8. No version of MT I have will connect a CB3 in 2.4 B/G mode, it will only connect other 2.4 B/G MT AP's or clients - that's bad. I can't afford to replace all the CB3's but I would like to offer speeds greater than 5Mbps for some clients and need to use G to do it.

Any fixes in the later versions? I haven't seen anything in the changelog to reflect it, and my network isn't "broken" right now so I'm not going to upgrade quite yet since it's been running so well.

I cannot get my CB3's to connect at all. Is there any trick that you had to do?

Create a second IP on your WLAN interface.

For example:
You will have a dhcp pool range setup for your WLAN.
You add an ip as well (ie. 10.10.2.1/24)
Then on the CB3 you set a static IP of 10.10.2.x.
The PCs would get a dhcp address from the pool, which would prompt them for a username and password.

I cannot get them to associate at all. I have set it to 2.4 B only and Long preamble. I am not sure what else I would have to set? I have about 55 connecting to a wrap currently that I want to switch to a RouterBoard

What are your settings on the wireless config on the CB3?

We set a static IP and ssid and usually set the rate to 11 instead of auto. Other than that they are default (other than username and password)

I have the same problem on one AP, but the other AP on the same tower works fine. I've stopped trying to fix the problem.
Both APs are the same in every way so I can only think that it's the firm ware version on the CB3 clients.
One AP is set to B/G and the other is set to B only. The one in B only mode wont let the CB3s connect in B/G mode. But the other works fine. It will make you crazy.
SO, I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!

But I have all different firmware versions of CB3's. Do you have any other radio trying to connect? I have a few old wet11's as clients. And when I took the old AP offline every client I had connected. I would think that I should get some clients connecting, and sometimes I get 1 or 4 but never all of them?

I just tried to scan setting an onmi on the same tower to station and it cannot find the ssid of the RB. If I run snooper on the RB I can see all of my clients, but only if I set snooper to show errors, and it never shows the ssid of them?

What cards are everyone using that are having problems? I am using a CM9 but think I will try a 2511 200mw or an SR2 to see if that makes a difference. Anyone know if one would work better than the other?

CB3 not connecting

Tue Nov 07, 2006 7:41 am

I have a WRAP that seems to work fine but I just setup a new user with a CB3 and it has a good signal (-66) and the CB3 gets a IP from the DHCP server but the PC connected to the CB3 never gets a IP from the DHCP server. And when I assign a static IP it still doesn't seem to work. I have tried everything from swapping out the CB3 with another one. Tried multiple routers & laptops. Still doesn't work.
I'm running 2.9.35 on the AP. And I'm using an Atheros AR5213 card as well.

I did have problems associating to a prism card and replaced it with an atheros card.

With regards to IP however, I found I had to set a second IP ie: 10.10.22.1/24
this address is associated with the same WLAN interface that also has a pool range associated with it ie: 192.168.22.1/24

The senao I configured with a static address ie 10.10.22.2.
The PC's behind the Senao bridge are configured with DHCP so a PC would get for example 192.168.22.2.

Every Thing works great.
The PCs behind the bridge are forwarded to the hotspot login.

If I setup a laptop with a static IP ie. 10.10.22.3 I will still be prompted to Log in to the hotspot.

If you like you can setup user and pass using the Mac of the bridge, and create firewall rules to prevent outgoing connections from IP addresses in the 10.10.22.0/24 subnet, so you can remotely configure the Bridges.
Which will prevent MAC spoofers from spoofing the 10.10.22.0/24 subnet and getting outward connections.

Saw the same issue. Can't believe I'm saying this but if you set your MT to channel 6 in B/G mode they will work with the CB3's.

My advice? Burn all your CB3's and replace them with MT!!!
