Netbox5 - Outdoor results with 866/866 Data Rates

Sat Sep 13, 2014 12:28 am

Short link, backup for AirFiber5, upgraded from RB800 boards with SR71 cards, old throughput @ 300/300 rates was about 180-200Mb.

Just upgraded to Netbox5's, 6.19 Firmware, 80Mhz channel, 866/866 data rates, here is the results. Something is SERIOUSLY wrong!!! Maybe low CPU on Netbox compared to 800Mhz with RB800's????

It's also a really short link, and the signals are HOT, -27 or so, I can't see anywhere what the current TX powers are, all just say 0db !?!?

NV2 - 170Mb
Nstreme - 175Mb
802.11 - 530Mb UDP / 160TCP

Looks like plain 802.11 gives the best throughput, but how well will it work at long-haul links at 30-40 miles??

It will probably work much better on links which are not overloading the receiver. :-)

I don't have any of these boxes so don't know how MikroTik has changed how to manipulate the power setting, again.... But do I expect links to run horribly when they are that hot. It will probably improve once you figure out how to dial the power back.

Just completed the 2nd link that connects to this 1st one. 7.8 miles, signal -53/-52. Again, best throughput is 802.11, both NV2 and Nsreme cap out at 170Mb or so, regardless even if air rates are 780/866, and they stay that high, which usually they will crash down when running throughput test. Perhaps THAT is the problem, rates aren't adjusting the way they should, and when locked in at a higher rate than it can handle due to noise or something, then you get LESS throughput. If I could limit the highest rate to a lower speed, I bet I'd see higher than 170Mb :)

i use ccr1036 and 1100ax2 to test traffic.

I never managed to achieve 866mbit rates. The result in 802.11 is what is to be expected.
I don't know why your results in nv2 are so low, the nstreme results are the same as mine - not more than 180mbit/s.
Most people will say that your signal is too high. The current tx power shows 0, but the setting work even though you dont see it. I have set mine to 9dBm all rates fixed and that lowered the signal from -38 to -55.

Signal may be too high on the first link, but the 2nd link is 7.8 miles and -53/-52 which is perfect. are exact results too. First link I forced all TX power to just 14db and it lowered the signal. Testing speeds with CCR or 1100ah doesn't make any sense if I can see 540mb with 802.11 but not Nstreme or NV2. nV2 seems to be the worse, even after fine-tuning the NV2 latency from auto

I have the same problem on NetBox5 with "Current TX Power" showing all zeros.

Maybe a bug?
