Hotspot login page not loading, anyone seen this before

Wed Jun 14, 2006 2:31 pm

I have a strange problem. Some of our clients can't see the login page when connecting to our hotspots while others do. Client is getting ip etc.
When giving access through mac address the client has a good ping, tracert works fine but still can't open browser (page cannot be found)
Router OS 2.9.23. Tried this on os 2.9.18, same problem. All pages within the walled garden are working fine?????? It looks like something is blocking browser traffic. Pls help

Have you created a host record for the hotspot on the DNS server? I had a similar problem to this when I forgot to do that once.

There can also be issues if you set the dns name under the hotspot settings...I think this is what NZLamb is saying. I usually leave it blank.

I usually leave it blank.
I'd never tried that to be honest! :) If you fill it in and the client can't resolve the name it refuses to work.

Leaving the DNS Name blank did the job for me.

Hi,
I have the same problem, I am confused about how to resolve it.
Have you created a host record for the hotspot on the DNS server? I had a similar problem to this when I forgot to do that once.
Can somebody please explain how to do this, Is this under hotspot settings or ip/dns

Thank you

I think they mean to leave it in hotspot blank and manually set a static entry under ip/dns.

hai...
i used this until now ... is ok
0 * name="UM2" hotspot-address=86.47.27.4 dns-name="hotspot.um2link.net"
     html-directory=hotspot rate-limit="" http-proxy=0.0.0.0:0
     smtp-server=0.0.0.0 login-by=http-chap,https,http-pap
     ssl-certificate=none split-user-domain=no use-radius=yes
     radius-accounting=yes radius-interim-update=2m30s nas-port-type=ethernet
     radius-default-domain="radhot" radius-location-id=""
     radius-location-name=""
when your login page isn't appear, i think your gateway goes down.

So how should we be doing this?

Currently we use hotposts.ourdomain.com as the DNS Name in the hotspot config, along with a static entry for it. (The static entry points to the inside address of the MT which is different from site to site)
We have an SSL certificate for the same domain that we use at each site to redirect via a secure page.

If I attempt to do a ping command from winbox to hotspots.ourdomain.com it can't find the domain.
However it resolves correctly for the majority of users and doesn't for a few.

DNS allow-remote-requests=no at the moment.
