Wifi for bus station

Fri Dec 26, 2014 8:54 pm

Hi,

I need to provide wifi into a bus station. The area to cover is 300 meters (1000 feets) X 10 meters (30 feets) with around 700 users connected at the same time.
I'm thinking to use as router a Mikrotik CCR1016-12G but I'm not sure about the access points... what AP of Mikrotik do you recommend? and how many?
Thanks!!

Hi
first of all i think you don't need CCR , CCR is very strong and expensive just for 700 users !! RB450 Or RB 1100 AHX2 is enough.

i think RB Metal 2 is good for your solution , but you can use 8 of them with OMNI antenna in WDS mode to cover your area

good luck

Don't use wds. Connect all APs by wires. Also use sector antennas instead omnidirectional if you expect high density of clients on such small place.

i'm agree with jarda :) if you can use wire on that place of course it's better than wireless !
in some countries sector antenna are not allowed for personal use or they are expensive.

i would use cAP-s or even better daisy-chained mAP-s all over the place with low power, instead of metals.
You don't want interference there, and using high-powered metals is the wrong way forward.
Agree, you don't need a CCR there, but you might be interested in using RB750UP-s to provide power the mAP-s in a clean neat way.

only in the old skin, which is used by around 10 people. we haven't figured out how to add it to the new forum design yet.

That's why it's written in my signature. You should make old skin to be default back and let users to change to the new skin if they want. It's typical for mikrotik to implement one new useless feature and break more useful features for ages. But we were already talking about it and it is off topic for this thread.
