Wireless Throughput config

Wed Jan 14, 2015 1:28 pm

Hi All,

I have been a Mikrotik user for a number of years now but I still consider myself a novice when it comes to the vast amount of available features. I have mainly been using a sets of SXTs (5ghz) for a point to point links over a very short distances (300m - 1km) with almost out of the box configs.

Recently I purchased 2x RBSXTG-5HPacD and connected together using 5Ghz AC. Wireless registration jumps up and down from 6mbps to as high as 780mbps, but I am unable to get anything even close in throughput (Please refer to the attached image).

I am not sure what to check, any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Have you upgraded to latest RouterOS version ?
How far one form another they are ?
What signal levels are you getting. For best ac speed, signals should be around -40dbm and as less interference as possible in testing frequencies.
also Try not to generate traffic with btest on test board because it will overload cpu and you will get bad results.

Just to answer your questions as well.

--- Have you upgraded to latest RouterOS version ?
-YES, running version 6.24 on all devices.

--- How far one form another they are ?
-The SXTs are roughly 250m apart.

--- What signal levels are you getting. For best ac speed, signals should be around -40dbm and as less interference as possible in testing frequencies.
-Please refer to the above images.

--- also Try not to generate traffic with btest on test board because it will overload cpu and you will get bad results.
-The bandwidth tests have been done from a desktop to a Mikrotik Switch (CRS102-8G-1S-2HnD) on the other side to the SXT link. The SXT AP is directly connected to the Mikrotik switch.

I found last night that there are periodic disconnects over the link as well. (Not good for Dota2 or Youtube) :)

If you or anyone else has any advice on improvements that could be done to the configuration, I am very interested to hear your thoughts. I am also happy to try anything.

Thank you in advanced.

On the client side wireless protocol is set to nstreme,nv2,802.11 on AP is set to 802.11
Set wireless protocol nstreme or nv2 on AP side and any on client side

- use NV2
- set 40Mhz channel
- use a channel between 5400-5500Mhz (5450Mhz is the best antenna gain for SXT ac.)
I'm getting ~200mbps

Hi Both,

Firstly I just want to say thank you.

Playing around with the settings you mentioned has got me up to almost a 100mbps throughput and more importantly the link is a little more stable. I still don't think this is close to what these devices can do over such a short distance and by looking at the CCQ % its most likely due to interference. I am strongly considering getting some sort of shielding for these SXTs. Below is a screenshot of my current settings and throughput.

Fast path only apply for firewall, probably he want to say something about queue types
in Queue List Interface Queues u can play with interface queue types but dont expect this to solve ur problem
"fast path rules" dont know what he mean but regulations yes 5400-5475Mhz its not free u need license to use it
eC also means 40Mhz channel width

I have 4xAC Links but all are set on AN band AC is still useless in real world not talking about test in the lab or 100-200m P2P link, using nv2 latency is radical lot of losses, nstreme is much much better but prepare for lot of disconnected too many poll time outs
U post picture about Tx Power=default hm just look in Current Tx Power TAB its empty.

Follow here:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Fast_Path

yup, eC is 40Mhz, to achieve 150M/150M is not an issue.
we tested both end using CCR1036 with distance 10KM...

it's look great, but can only work as L2 bridge, no firewall, queue and others...
:D :D :D

p/s: cannot attached the link throughput print screen here.
