Please help. I must install a tower with AP 'last week' and just have problems I can't seem to solve. Never had so much headache on an installation. Did about 9 previous similar installations with 'no' problems.
Here's the breakdown:
RB500 with daughterboard
NMP5354 MiniPCI card for 5.8 GHz uplink
NMP5354 & CM9 cards for APs
At first I tried to set up two 180' sector antannas, but now I've just got one 15dbi omni
Here's the problem:
My 5.8GHz uplink is 100%(?), I do a bandwidth test at about 30Mbs solid.
My AP... If I'm very close to the tower, I can connect.
If I'm +-70m away with a laptop (Intel 2200BG card) it shows 100% (excellent)signal strength, but i can not even get ping responses. I've changed the channel to 2412 (ch1 - 802.11b only) and then I get very poor & inconsistent responses. Even if I'm up on the tower(2m away), my pings are 50ms+ Tried long/short/both preamble. Checked 'Frequency scan' from WinBox and it seems like almost no other radios in there.
Here's the scenario:
There are 9 cellphone sector antennas on the same tower
2 radio antennas (police radio repeaters) and security radio antennas.
My Mikrotik support guys said that cellphone towers & radio should have no interference, but I get very, very bad trhoughput. Even with a 19db grid antenna about 1km away, I barely get ping responses & cannot even remotely open WinBox so bad is it.
My routerboard is mounted in a plastic box lined with aliminium foil on the inside to try & minimize interference to the police radios on the tower. No shorts, plastic mountings.
Please help. I need to get this tower working nicely and have many people on my back...
From this info, is there anyone out there who can 'see' what I did wrong? I don't own sprectrum analysers & other specialized equipment, so I don't know where to start looking.
I also replaced with other cards & antennas but always the same problem.
Any help desperately needed.
Thanks
