Ap setup question

Sat Apr 11, 2015 9:28 pm

Hi all,

I wanna setup an AP based on RB435G board. Now the questions I have for you are:
- can I use PoE to Power it from my RB2011-UiAS-IN ?
- can I use 2 minipci's wifi (one for 2.4 and one for 5) and only 2 antennas? Do I have any gain using more wifi minipci's?
- if I use more than 1 minipci wifi can I broadcast the same ssid?
- what wifi card do you recommend for 200 square meters indoor?

Thank you

Ap setup question

Yes to all your questions. But: You would maybe need stronger power adapter if the actual will not be sufficient - need to try. You will use probably more antennas as I recommend to install dual chain radios. Even you should use whatever radios with "HnD" at the end there is not something like "covered area" as link quality depends on both sides of the link and not only on the Ap.
You have to count with the environment too.

Thanks for the reply.
I can plug it directly to AC.the case I see for this board supports only 2 antennas I believe.i need to decide what wifi cards I need to buy then see how to configure them.any advice is well received.

If you have a case with insufficient number of holes, just drill another ones. Card selection should fulfil your budget, but as I wrote, take a least HnD versions.

Thanks again for your update.
I'll go then for the R52Hn for 2.4 and R11e-HnD or Hac for 5 GHz.
Hope this setup will be more stabil the the previous ddwrt.

For 200 square meters you might get a better result by using more APs. I suggest 2 or even 3. But it totally depends on the building structure.

Often it's better to more APs with small TX power instead of one with high TX power.

I can only buy one for now. In case I can't cover the entire space I can use the old ddwrt as ap bridge. Still not decided what Wi-Fi card to use. :(
