CapsMan devices disconnecting

Wed Jun 03, 2015 7:31 pm

Hi!

I've setup a capsman between a RB2011UAS-2DnD and RBcAP2n

both running 6.29, named LocalRouter and WirelessExtender
[admin@MikroTik] > caps-man actual-interface-configuration print
Flags: M - master, D - dynamic, B - bound, X - disabled, I - inactive, R - running
 1 BR name="LocalRouter_GuestWLAN" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=D6:CA:6D:6E:AF:FF arp=enabled radio-mac=00:00:00:00:00:00 master-interface=LocalRouter configuration.mode=ap configuration.ssid="CP_Guest" configuration.tx-chains=0,1,2

Devices associate to both devices - LocalRouter and WirelessExtender, however sporadically some mobiles (iphones reported so far) experience issues with wireless. Users are reporting wireless "flapping" or being "slow"

This is how it looks in the logs

Another reason for "flapping" seen in the logs has been observed as "extensive data loss".

In all cases users are quite near to both of the wireless devices

With no capsman nothing has been reported.

Any ideas?

Hi,

It appears as though you are using same channel for both APs?. use separate for each through higher level interface config in CAPsMAN.

turn of extension channels - not enough on 2.4 for 2 Aps - could cause interference.

Check interference with freq scan

How close are the APs? You generally need decent dBm distance.

It might be that client is just roaming - check wireless message on mikrotik wiki.

Kind Regards

Aidan

"extensive data loss" = interference usually.

do as per previous post

thanks for the suggestion, trying that now.
Can a router perform normally when it hosts 2 access points are on different frequencies? Do i need to assign separate antennas for every AP?

Each wireless interface within range of another (unless using a proprietary zero hand of solution like meru or ubiquiti) needs to use different non overlapping channels. Even if two interface are on same AP.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

2.4Ghz use channel 1 or 6 or 11

On One AP:
interface 1 can use chan 1 = 2412
interface 2 can use chan 6 = 2437

Its much better to have 1 x 2.4ghz and 1 x 5ghz interface on one AP rather than 2 x 2.4ghz interfaces.

2.4Ghz channels are considered by many to be saturated. Only 3 x 20mhz available

5Ghz channels less crowded (for now!) with (depends where u live) 21 channels available

kind regards

ignore the last message - it doesn`t answer the question!

antenna assignment is automatic to the card its physically plugged into.

do you mean interface?

You can configure these at many levels on CAPsMAN

I provision my APs based on MAC address

My frequency assignment is done at the interface level in CAPsMAN

kind regards

Hello,
I was too looking how to resolve this problem.
My problem is resolved when I put Maquarade in my Core Mikrotik. (Exemp.,my computer have 192.168.0.1/24, AP 192.168.1.1/24)
[tester@MT3011L] > ip firewall nat
[tester@MT3011L] /ip firewall nat> add chain=srcnat dst-address=192.168.1.1 action=masquerade disabled=no comment=MasqForAP
I just put this solution becouse I don't see that on the forum.
