SXT SA5 bricked after update?

Mon Aug 17, 2015 7:02 pm

Hi there,

I've several routerboard hardware here and I could update all to 6.31 without any problems - expect one sxt sa5.

The whole time you can only see 2 of the 5 outside LEDs:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... 99#p483899
or like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enS07j4TG0U

Thanks to the reset button I can let it boot to netinstall and all seems working. I install several routeros versions, runnetinstall on different PC, but with no luck. The netinstall says: "All ok", but after reboot I cannot connect and 2 of 5 outside LEDs are on.
Sometimes netinstall hangs on "sending offer" .. don't know, if this is important.

I oriantated myself primarily on this guide:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... 60#p392660

I also tried things like
"I create a file called " upgrade.rsc"
and i wrote in it:
/system routerboard upgrade"
( http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... 75#p465775 )

Any additionally ideas to bring life back to this little boy? :?

Thank you! :)

Hello plisken,

I cannot connect to the sxt via mac address. SXT isn't discovered and if I try to connect manually it isn't working.

No chance to update the firmware at this moment, no connection possible. :(

If you're using the Winbox 3 beta, that might be why it doesn't see the defaulted SXT. Alternatives would be to use Winbox 2, or put another RB on the network and use its neighbor discovery to see & telnet into the SXT.

Hi Hotz1,

I'd also tried to use another RB to connect to the SXT .. but it isn't shown in the Neighbors List.

The answer from the support is not very helpfull at the moment:
"Hello,

1) Power your device off;
2) Press and hold reset button;
3) Power device on;
4) Hold reset button pressed for 1-2 seconds and then release;
5) If device boots up, then run command "/system routerboard upgrade"

If previously mentioned steps do not help, then use Netinstall for installation.
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall"

In my email was a link to this thread, but it seems their haven't read the text .. or they don't understand it .. very sad. :(

Have you tried to short-circuit this (red circles).
While the unit boots up?

Try these steps to boot into backup firmware.
1) Power off device
2) hold the reset button and power on
3) keep holding the reset button for 5-6 seconds when the led starts blinking for the first time release the button.
4) unit should boot into backup firmware
5) issue command
/system routerboard upgrade
6) reboot normally

I have fixed some devices in this way but not all.
Good luck

The answer from the support:

"Hello,

Please contact Distributor (company you bought the item from) and request RMA [...]"

so the SXT seems to be bricked. sad :(

Reset it. Hold reset after reboot for 20~ seconds, and let it load. I noticed something too - DO NOT remove default config, after that board seems dead. I noticed this only on SXT SA5, other SXT are ok
