Dude Server on Windows

Thu Jan 05, 2017 12:11 am

Hi,

Years ago I used to use Dude on my network for monitoring. It's been a long time since I was on your site or used the software but I seem to remember that there was an EXE version that included both a client AND server version that could run on Windows. Can someone help me out?

Short summary, MikroTik recently restarted Dude development after a long pause, but new versions of server run only on RouterOS.

Hi All,
Long time passed since I have been to this forum. A lot has changed, but relying on the Dude server in my work has not changed till now. Now I need to install the new version (windows version started to fail multiple times), hoping it is more robust than the windows version. I know it now needs to be installed on a RouterBoard, or RouterBorad OS. In short, I am dedicating an HP ProLiant server for this task and I need to install RouterOS x86 on it.

I wonder if any of you have a similar setup to guide me through:
- Should I purchase a license for that task (Only Dude server)?
- What license should I acquire for this purpose?
- is it a reliable solution, I mean in long term?
- Any considerations I should be aware of.

I really appreciate any feedback.

Regards all.

If you are using Windows, then the easiest way would be to install the CHR Dude server on virtual machine.

All packages are available in our download page:
http://www.mikrotik.com/download

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Th ... stallation
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Th ... nToNewDude

Since CHR is free (for limited speed), it's perfect for testing.

First of all, I really appreciate your quick response and the useful information in it.
In fact, my goal was to avoid using windows. I assumed that using a dedicated Mikrotik OS machine would be more robust and reliable than windows.
I intend to use this hardware as a dedicated Dude server to help me during crisis time when the Virtual environment is unreachable.

So, the setup I am asking about if possible:

1-Dedicated ix86 HW server
2-MikroTik OS (This is what I am asking about)
3-Dude Server running on MikroTik OS

If I would have to stick with Windows scenario, I would avoid adding another layer on virtualization and go with the latest windows version 4.x.

Just to add to my previous reply:

1- I am not looking for testing environment setup, and for sure not limited speed or features.
2- I do not mind paying money to have a full featured dude server setup.

Update:

I have purchased a p1 license, I hope that would be enough for the Dude server functionality.

Yes, the license level will not affect your Dude performance/functionality, you will get the same features.

different kinds of licenses are available for purchase.
Are you talking about licenses P1/10/.. for CHRs or L3-L6 for x_86/Routerboards ?
