CHR disk resize

Mon Jan 08, 2018 9:28 am

Hey gents,

I have an issue increasing my CHR's disk size. Even I upgrade the size of my AWS EC2 instance, the CHR shows the same disk size. Can someone help?

Hello, praneethmj!

As described in the Amazon documentation, additionally steps inside OS are required after disk volume was increased: Extending a Linux File System after Resizing the Volume.

Some forum posts related to disk resize:
1. Resize existing running chr raw.
2. Expand VirtualBox CHR disk size
3. How to expand virtualized x86 ROS system partition
4. CHR Esxi increse disk size
5. CHR feature requests

If your question is related to the Dude, as a workaround you may:
1. Attach second EBS volume with required size.
2. Format attached volume inside CHR.
3. Stop Dude.
4. Export Dude database for backup purpose.
5. Move Dude to the new drive as described in the Wiki: Manual:The_Dude_v6/Change_DB_path

Thank you!

Hi Slech! Thanks for your quick reply. Yes my question is related to Dude. I'm using CHR to run Dude. I managed to attach second EBS volume. Yet the CHR doesn't show any attached disks to be formatted.

praneethmj, what does command '/disk print' show you?

It seems that some forum users have similar issue with this: How to use an extra disk with CHR on AWS EC2?

Thank you!

@slech, no disk is displayed there when /disk print is entered.

praneethmj,

I sent a request to support, "[Ticket#2018011222004602] Mikrotik CHR in Amazon EC2 - Adding additional drive", but still no answer.

I have tried to add an EBS volume to CHR in AWS but currently without success.

I didn't tried, but probably we may try to create a local CHR instance with desired size/volumes and then migrate them to the AWS using AWS Server Migration Service. Than we may use import/export to migrate Dude to another EC2 instance.

Thank you!

Hello, praneethmj!

Today Mikrotk team released new rc version - Version 6.42rc12 has been released
*) chr - make additional disks visible under "/disk" on Xen installations;

I have verified it in Amazon EC2 and now I see the disk:
[admin@ip-172-31-25-223.eu-central-1.compute.internal] > disk print
 # NAME LABEL TYPE DISK FREE SIZE
 0                                                               unknown vbd/51792                                 1024.0MiB

It seems that in the new release we will be able to add volumes in Amazon EC2.

Thank you, Mikrotik team!

P.S. Bug with connection lost to the instance when volume is detached, still reproducible.

Hello!

Version 6.42rc23 has been released.
*) disk - fixed disk related processes becoming unresponsive after unplugging used disk;

What's new in 6.42rc28 (2018-Feb-16 07:02):
*) chr - fixed additional disk detaching on Xen installations;

Now, CHR on EC2 work correctly with disk dettach.

Thank you!
