Feature requests revisited

Mikrotik:

I asked for these several months ago and wanted to bring them up again. There are more but I have to go back through my posts as I forgot several :) The amount of background traffic is getting high in my network due to the polling frequency.

1. Can we get the option of specifying the polling intervals for elements added in the next Beta. I would like to be able to specify the polling rate on links as well as element appearance. :D For instance, on some links, I plot RSSI and I don't need it updated every 10 seconds.

2. When is the new backend database support being introduced?

3. For links, I would like to be able to specify the use of custom fields of either end of a link. i.e, we performing snmp gets from one end of the link as specified by the link setting but I would like to be able to use customer fields in the OID from the other end of the link.

Uldis/Normis: Any comment? #1 is really needed soon.

#1 isn't this already available? open item settings, and set probe interval to what you want

You can't specify this for element Appearance or Links which is what several folks are requesting. Is this in BETA3? I haven't loaded it as it didn't indicate that these enhancements were added.

But that is for probes. What is requested is the ability to set different polling rates for element appearance, links, and probes. Currently, link polling is defaulted to 10 seconds and is not changeable. Same for element appearance.

For instance, I add a link that plots RSSI. I don't need to poll every 10 seconds. Every two minutes is fine. Onthe otherhand, link data rate may be OK with 10 second polling. We need more flexibility to alter the polling intervals. Maybe we need to be able to define link types with different polling intervals OR each link can have its own polling interval.

For element appearance, if one adds OIDS to the appearance, maybe we only want to poll every 5 minutes. Maybe each element type can have an option for specifying the polling interval for the element appearance.

The problem currently is that there is simply too much background snmp traffic with the current implementation and elements are getting hammered with SNMP gets.

I see, ok - from new changelog:

*) network map label refresh interval is now configurable

Are you saying this is in BETA 3 or will be in Beta 4? And is the appearance polling intercal different from the polling interval from the element (that is what is being requested).

How about the Link polling interval specification? :D

Normis:

Lots of good stuff in Beta 4 :D

I see the Label refresh being configurable in the change log but I don't see the link interval update rate specification noted? Did that make it in Beta4?

:D Cool. Thanks Normis. I love the horizontal Scroll bars too for the MIB tables. 8)
