Need to have the Dude send email when SNMP Oid changes

Fri Aug 14, 2009 7:56 am

We run a rural network with lots of battery systems in real remote locations. We need to have the dude trigger an email to the on-call pager when a specific oid, in this case the input voltage, drops below a specific threshold. I am not seeing an obvious way to do this, but that merely shows that I have not yet been initiated into the mysteries of this layer of Dude knowledge. Help from anyone would be appreciated.

Yes it is possible.

Create new Probe,
which will be called Voltage,
select Type as SNMP,
put correct OID (which is reporting voltage),
set correct compare method to declare that service is down when value is lower.

Go to the Notification,
create new notification with type e-mail, correct server and correct e-mail

Go to the correct network map and select device, where voltage should be monitored.
Add Voltage service for device monitor,
switch to Notifications and check e-mail notification to use for voltage monitoring.

Hi, I haven't an internal server, so I would like to use gmail.

1) in server field Dude gives me error if I don't insert numerical IP address (instead of "smtp.gmail.com")
2) where can I insert e-mail access settings (username and password)?

Regards, Michele.

Thanks sergejs for this simple explanation.
