How do I set it so that I get emailed only when a host has gone down completely and not just when a service probe has stop responsing.

excessive email notifications

Thu Feb 23, 2006 6:00 am

 I love the Dud NMS and used Dude for several weeks, but it started to drive me crazy because it would send me an email alert if the ping service didn't respond to just one ping. I really need to find a way to tell Dude to only send a notification if a host does not respond at all. Another option would be for Dude to send a notification if more than 30% of ping did not respond. Is there a way to do this?[/quote]

To clarify some things: by default ping probe is set to 'Retry Count' 3, and
'Retry Interval' 1000. That means for Dude to decide that probe is down it
takes three pings without reply.
Secondly there are 'Poll settings' that are settable per Service, Device,
Network Map, Globally, more specific setting overrides other. By default it
is set to 'Probe Down Count' 5, that means for service to be decided as down
it takes five consecutive probes to be down. In case of ICMP it is 3 times 5
pings lost.
