I have had a request from tech support in my isp that I thought I would pass along. In The Dude, it seems to use the pc speaker only. It would be nice if it would use the sound card to notify alerts. That way volume could be used and turned up loud so if tech support at night gets an alert it would notify them better if they are not setting at their computer. For instance, Nagios would alert via sound card with a sound and it could be heard in another room if the support person was not setting at the computer. In my case they sometimes miss the alert if they are not setting at the computer.

Please describe your setup in more detail (hardware/software). For us sound notification works (and should work for everyone) using whatever hardware windows is using for system sounds.
Its hard to fix the problem without reproducing it.
