Allow internet access only to users that are ACTIVELY using a certain application

Fri Oct 19, 2018 12:22 am

Hi guys,

I am trying to force my team to use a time tracking application. I have tried everything. The only thing that I haven't tried is to knock their head on the wall. :)

One way to force them is to block their internet access if they don't actively use the application.

I initially tried to use an address list. The idea was to track which users have a connection with a certain ip and port (time tracking software server), add them to the address list and then open their internet access. The problem with this solution is that if the user stops using the application after 10 minutes, he will still have internet access.

Is there a solution where I can check for example every 15 minutes if bytes are increasing (therefore the application is being used) and keep the connection alive? And if the connections is not "alive" block the internet access?

It would be really nice if someone can help me with this!

Thank you!

Did you try timeouts on the address list entries?

There are 10 types of people: Those who understand binary and those who don't.
There are two types of people: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
