CAPsMAN not passing data after moving between CAPs

Thu May 11, 2023 10:15 pm

Hi,
I have a few old RB433 boards scattered around my home with a simple CAPsMAN setup that broadcasts a 5GHz network on the same ssid and channel. All configuration settings default except TX power, frequency and HT chains.
The problem is, sometimes, when i move between two CAPs, they normally reconnect me between eachother as they should, but the newly connected CAP refuses to pass data. Connection strong and stable but no data passthrough. Turning my device's adapter on/off and reconnecting usually solves the problem, but it is very annoying to know that it is not working properly.
Any tips?
Thanks,
Michael.

What ROS version are you using?

Send export of your capsman server and your wireless devices.

Regards.

Hello and thanks for replying.
I recently updated my CAPsMAN server along with its CAPs to 6.49.7, marked as 'stable' for the 433's.
It seems to be better, but i think its still doing it sometimes.

Here is the config i have on my CAPsMAN server:

# software id = D2PI-7N3S

Re: CAPsMAN not passing data after moving between CAPs

Did you try to setup an access list to fine tune the accepted signal range and drop when the device is in the low range?
This can prevent to help from “sticky” access point.
https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ ... AccessList

By allowing or disabling forwarding in the rule you force a device to disconnect when the signal in too weak an by doing this the device will be forced to reconnect on the other AP that is having a stronger signal.
Of course to find the sweet spot of the range you will have to do some “survey” of your specific site as the optimal signal range can vary based on the specificity of your building.

Hi and thanks for replying.
That is not the problem, as i often have a strong and stable connection to the newly connected CAP and have the connection stable and clear, but after the connection switches from the weaker one to the stronger one it just sometimes refuses to pass data. I could stand right next to it, have the RSSI -30 dBm, but it just won't. Anyways, thanks for the function you specified! I didnt know it could do that!

Did you check if your switch shows the host as moved?
