MUM plans for 2023?

Thu Jan 26, 2023 10:48 am

Soon 4 years since last Europe Mum - are there any plans for 2023?
Haven't seen any announcement from MT on this.

I think also, we are in the middle of flu+covid which doesnt help planning.
Also until MT produces a zero trust cloudfare tunnel package, not much to talk about ;-)

Yes I understand what you mean.
However, besides a beer or three, a fair part of the MUMs is about the technical stuff too.
And business must go on, even while a mad former KGB agent is killing his neighbors...

Regarding "middle of flu + covid": Flus are around every winter, and for those of us not living in China, I would say the vast of the pandemic is behind us...

+1 MUM@Kyïv

The MUM can't be done until there is something really new to show.
With this shortage of chips, what do you expect us to show?
Already in the bucket there are wireless components from 6 years ago...

They could do a whole slew of things with RouterOS 7, especially containers, storage, 6->7 migrations, L3HW offload, etc. There would be plenty of attendees who don't regularly follow the forums to know what's going on.

Well, I should not go unless they put Zero trust cloudfare tunnel in a package setup by then, otherwise I may be likely to bring a sedative with the aim to shave Normands beard off ;-)

I guess everyone has their own reasons for attending the MUMs.
New hardware is one possible reason. Sometimes you hear rumors but most often I have no idea of what is coming before Normis pulls the rabbit out of the hat.
So I'm sorry, I cannot tell you what I expect.
Apart from that there use to be lotsa interesting presentations. Some are about new ROS features, others about smart ways of employing MT hardware and ROS.
And of course you have the 3rd party equipment, and as mentioned the social part.
So I think it would not be too difficult to fill 2 days of MUM program.

Slow in Texas? or Sarcastic LOL. There is a video for the feature already but only if
a. you have an arm device.
b. containers are a snap to implement for you ( its amazing how many server folks have problem with port forwarding let alone containers ........... )
c. you dont care about the xtra security warnings MT provides for the use of containers.
(that right a great way to help I would say non-it trained MT users have safe and secure Server experiences is TO FORCE UPON THEM a level of complexity that is not warranted, and an environment that if not done right has more serious security consequences and did i also state, buy a new appliance if its not an arm device.

Would like to hold a presentation there, like: "The advantages of running openwrt on mikrotik hardware, especially for hotspots".
Question is, whether accepted by Mikrotik ...

A good presentation cover both the advantages, and disadvantages. And you need to know your audience to be an effective speaker.

I guess Mikrotik likely be happy sell routers, without any liability for support. But your style isn't going to be seller I fear.

This is a forum for discussing Mikrotik, and the topic is about the possibility for MUMs, not a training session for Google translate.
So please don't contaminate the forum with all kinds of messages in rare languages....

You make yourself worse, it seems to me...

I don't know Serbian, but I had perfectly understood what was written without translate....

What's technical about being excited to have it done in own country?

Well, I can see it says something about Serbia and MUM, maybe one could have guessed the message, and of course it can be translated.
And - a little OT - indeed I would love to attend a serbian MUM if it was in english.
But the point is nothing of the above .
Maybe I was too harsh in the beginning - I can take that one, but that does not remove my point: I think it is a very bad idea to post in other languages in an english-speaking forum.
Both for the poster - who will then miss 98% of the potential contributors, but also for the readers who don't bother to paste the text into Google.
The benefit of communicating in english is beyond discussion, then you benefit from the entire world-wide community and we all get better.

No, If I was a risk taker I would buy shares in MT WIFI Stock and gamble hard earned money that MT was going to add Cloudflare zero trust tunnel as an options package for all devices!
No my spouse and I saw it from a distance. To get there was just too difficult and if I had gotten remotely close I would have turned around ASAP. I got queasy watching the guy walking the trail.

Suggest waiting until a certain war is over, out of respect.......... Kinda hard to be partying in Europe at the moment.......
I think also, we are in the middle of flu+covid which doesnt help planning.
Also until MT produces a zero trust cloudfare tunnel package, not much to talk about ;-)
Its fine, people are dating and marrying in Ukraine, life goes on. I wanna see MUM return. I think covid is gone, noone is wearing masks anymore, the most likely place to catch covid is airplane, cuz airlines aren't cleaning vents/filters and you're stuck breathing disgusting farty cough air for hours.

Agree, life goes on, despite Tsar Vladimir's cruelties, there is no reason that businesses shall halt.
And as far as I know, Mikrotik gear is also in service in war-stricken areas in Ukraine.
So I'm still eagerly awaiting the next Europe Mum!

Or probably with RouterOS v7 it would be nothing but
"but when will you finish the characteristics equalization with v6?"
"why are you changing the web GUI without listening to users?"
"why aren't there ax products for the outdoors too?"
"When do you finish the BGP on v7?"
"Why isn't there a GUI like the (real) previous user-manager?"
<<INSERT YOURS HERE>>

Until they fix this, the MUM would be a pool of complainings, rather than showing something new...

Well, I think they can deal with that! At the two MUMs I attended, I also complained:
- why is there no more love for IPv6
- why is there no support for DSL
etc.
They know how to deal with that! "nobody ever asks for that!" "everyone has fiber today!".

Apologies for the blatant spam...

For many of us it has now been over 5 years since the last MUM. A few of us 'old guys' have had a number of meetings with senior MikroTik staff and they have no plans (at the moment) to deliver any MUMs this year. They are fully aware of us doing this for the community and we have reached a mutual agreement about what we can and cannot do. We can't for example call it a MUM.

Therefore, since late last year, a small group of MikroTik Trainers and distributors have been quietly organising a MikroTik Meeting to be held at the same identical hotel where the very first Mikrotik event ever happened. We feel passionate that the community desperately needs the MUMs to return and so we took the financial risk of paying for the conference hotel ourselves in the hope that if enough people come we can all enjoy what the MUMs used to provide for us all again. :) Therefore to make this a success, please tell your colleagues and your distributor too! Usual format we all love, two days of presentations, a trade hall and of course, what MikroTik Meeting would be without the "end of show raffle"? :) We've also put on some various training courses on the three days before the two day event and we'll be offering a training certificate renewal service too.

That's brilliant news and amazing efforts for all those involved (Trainers and Distributors) in trying to rekindle the meetings, it will be good to see the communities and presentations back in action sharing again!
