Slower Wifi Download - CCR2004 BNG

Tue Jun 06, 2023 7:48 pm

Hello

I have a strange issue. My BNG is connected to the core network with 10gbps fibre. We provide some FTTH services which is also on a 10gbps NNI.
The problem we encounter is that users get slower download speeds than upload speed when they are on wifi (100% on cable). There is no congestion on the upstream network as speed tests are done from servers directly connected to the core network.

On cable as an example you can get 250mbps down, 250mbps up, but on wifi you always get 150mbps down and 250mbps up

Tried setting MTU to various options such as 1492, 1480, 1436 but the download speed consistently stays on 150mbps.

BTW: there is no other wifi SSID's in the area so its not wifi interference.

Any recommendations where I can start troubleshooting?

Since CCR2004 do not have wifi, and the problem happen only on wifi, ask the productor of the wifi device.
If is one MikroTik device, why do not write it at the start, configuration export included.

Hello

To clarify, The CCR2004 is the PPPOE server. End users that are on Wifi are experiencing the issue. It is not the wifi router as the same router provides much faster speeds when connected to another PPPOE server.

I also notice that when doing a speed test to a IPv6 server connected on Wifi at the client side, the throughput is about 245mbps but when you do speedtest using IPv4 it is only 150mbps.
