Apple Time Machine support via USB hard drive?

Hello,

I am running an hAP ac² on 6.48.6

https://mikrotik.com/product/hap_ac2#fn ... ifications

Is it possible to configure Samba to use an attached USB hard drive as a target for Apple Time Machine backup?

If yes: how?

I have found

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:System/Disks

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:IP/SMB

Thank you

Time machine on samba needs some extra config (when done on linux) and I doubt that's possible to configure on MT.

Hello nichky,

no config backup - I want to back up my Mac's using time machine.

I also have read into the Linux topic with the extra configuration effort to get Time Machine up and running.

Hence I wanted to ask if someone got it working on a hAP ac²

Did you manage to find an answer? Cause i just read a great article about the time machine and ways to use it in this blog https://www.macgasm.net/news/tips/how-t ... e-machine/. I bet you will find all the answers to your questions thereю The very important point here - create a time machine backup for the unexpected power loss for example. The instructions in this blog are pretty simple and people without special technical knowledge can manage it as well. Good Luck

Hello @IslaMujeres

no luck so far:

I have set up a regular smb share:

https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/SMB

ext4

Time Machine does complain with an error message not being able to find a valid target.

In macOS 14.4.1 (23E224) Finder I am able to access the MT samba share, read and write.

Is this really necessary?

https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Config ... h_Mac_OS_X

Where would I edit this on ROS?

Since this topic was started, all SMB implementation has been changed in RouterOS. Upgrade to v7.15 and reset all SMB settings, then try again to configure it from beginning. New SMB implementation in RouterOS could mean completely different result
