Mikrotik S+RJ10 third party switch compatibility

Mon Sep 04, 2023 1:44 pm

Hello,
I am looking for feedback on the compatibility of Mikrotik S+RJ10 SFP+ RJ45 modules with switches from other brands, specifically Cisco 9300x switches (with the unsupported-transceiver service option enabled).

Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Mikrotik S+RJ10 third party switch compatibility  [SOLVED]

I would only consider them if your switch has active cooling or is in an air-conditioned environment. I've had them overheating in my NetFiber and FiberBox switches with passive cooling. They reached 114 C and would shut down for 20 minutes to cool down. One of my guys burnt his hand while removing them from production because they were so hot.

I use one in CRS326-24G-2S+IN (passive cooling) running at 2.5G to hAP ax3. At 86F ambient RouterOS monitor shows 86C:
                               name: sfp-sfpplus1
                             status: link-ok
                   auto-negotiation: done

                        full-duplex: yes

                    rx-flow-control: no

It's quite WARM to the touch. At 10G speed, @michaeln416 burnt fingers report is credible. At up to 89F, I have seen no shutdowns.
