Bridge ccr1072 - ccr2216

Tue Sep 19, 2023 1:21 am

Hello everyone,

I am new to working with Mikrotik equipment, I want to make a bridge connecting two different routerboard models, ccr1072 and ccr2216. The main idea is to make a ring that allows me to have redundancy in the network. I have made the configurations of a bridge in both devices, but I can not get communication between them in the direct link, then I do not know if it is some incompatibility issue, because if I work with two ccr1072 and the same configuration when there is connectivity.

The default configuration uses *STP to pick one path until that fails and only then fail over to the other. Without STP, you'd have a switching loop here which can take the whole network down by spamming traffic around the loop indefinitely.

There are other methods of failover and load balancing and such, but I'm not qualified to recommend other options, only to explain why the simple case behaves as it does. If you were wanting one of these more advanced operating modes, such as expecting half the traffic to take one path around the loop and half the other, that's something others will have to help you with.

I understand STP and I tried with this configuration, also with RSTP, if they work since the ports of both routers are assigned their roles (I am not configuring in the terminal). What I want is to have redundancy so if a link fails it switches to the backup link. This is working fine between two ccr1072.

It makes me think a possible versione problem to bridge between ccr1072 and ccr2216, I would like to rule this out and know if the problem is in my configuration on the ccr2216.

Thanks for the reply.

What I want is to have redundancy

*STP will do that for you, provided all you are interested in is handling cable cuts and other problems detectable at the L2 media sensing layer. Plain old STP may take a minute to settle on a new network layout when one link is cut/unplugged, which is why they invented RSTP, which can reconverge in a few seconds. You need MSTP in the face of VLANs.

Now, if you want failover at L3 or higher while the links are viable but something else is wrong, then *STP won't help, and you have to go for something more advanced. If you want more detailed advice, define your precise failure causes, then show that your current solution isn't working to address them.
