BGP - Best Path Selection with Multiple Upstreams

Wed Dec 13, 2023 5:04 am

Hello,

I am about to have several new eBGP upstreams with full routing tables. I unfortunately have little experience on this since for the longest time I only had one.

I would like outbound traffic to go via the closest route i.e., best path. Otherwise, if the paths are of the same cost, do ECMP. Do I just... make new BGP connections to all of them and let RouterOS deal with it?

I understand I have little to no control on inbound traffic, but presumably they'll also go via the shortest path as well.

I am on RouterOS v7.12.1. I think this MT documentation on best path selection is confusing me since I can't see any "BGP instance". I can only see BGP instances in ROS v6.

What constitutes a BGP instance in V7? Can I view it in /routing/stats/process/print? I'm also having trouble understanding stats since I can't find proper documentation on it.
