RBmAP2nD query

Thu Dec 28, 2023 5:12 pm

Does the RBmAP2nD support 802.3af/at? That is, can it be powered by 802.3af/at compliant PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment)?

In this document on Microtik's website here https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/UM/mAP in the paragraph headed Powering, it states:

"The first Ethernet port accepts passive Power over Ethernet 11-57 V DC."

So, no mention of 802.3af/at, only passive PoE.

Can anybody advise me please? There is a source of cheap RBmAP2nD units on Ebay but unless they can be powered using 802.3af/at they are no use to me.

Thanks in advance!

Passive POE only.

See also this thread (back in time but interesting to read):

Many thanks for this and for the link to the 2014 thread. As you say, interesting! Is appears that the claims of 802.3af/at compliance for the RBmAP2nD were spurious. I will inform the Ebay seller that their description is wrong...

Can I purchase the newer RBmAPL-2nD units and be confident that they can be powered from 802.3af/at PSE?

Thanks

Yes and no.
Depending on the power source, a cross-over cable might be needed to get it working.

Look for the mAP Lite line.

I used to have a setup with cap Lite (exact same HW as mAP Lite) and it worked just fine using TP-Link SG105PE so YMMV.
