Adding fan(s) to a CRS309

Fri Jan 17, 2020 8:37 pm

Hello! I've got a question about the CRS309-1G-8S+IN. I recently picked one of these up and so far I like it a lot.

I was looking at some pictures of the inside, and I noticed they show a fan header that doesn't have the pins in it. Has anyone tried to use that to add a fan to the switch? Or adding any fan internally to this switch?

I'm going to be using a lot the S+RJ10 modules here in the near future, and a 3 of them wont be able to be separated. right now I have a fan blowing on the switch's front ports and the 2 S+RJ10's I have in there now for testing run between 55c and 64c.

Am not sure that if you add the fan it will actually cool down the SFPs...
Also the temperature you mention is pretty normal...

For those interested in adding fans, take a look at this video for some inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDTv6NGBhYk
