Help with my wireless setup

Wed Feb 14, 2024 11:17 am

Hi
I'm an old Mikrotik user since the RT532 model.
My current setup includes, among others:
- 1 x RB3011UiAS-RM working as router and CAPsMAN manager
- 3 x cAP ac as CAPs managed remotely.

All of them working flawlessly in RouterOS v7.13.4

I would like to add a cAP ax (despite the size XD) but I can't get to connect to CAPsMAN manager.

I don't know if it is possible to mix both kind of technologies (ax and ac) due the new arquitecture after RouterOS 7.13.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Thank you

YES YOU CAN!

:-)

cAP ac can be run with wifi-qcom-ac driver and does support the latest bennefits.
You really want to read the above link carefully, there are some manual steps to take.

Update the AC to 7.13 and you can manege from the new CAPsMAN like AX.
But if you use VLANs the config will be tricky and complicated because on AC devices the wifi-qcom-ac driver doesn't support vlan tagging.
You have to create bridge vlan filtering config in this case:

Thank you very much for your comments.

Finally, I've managed to understand how the new cAPsMAN work deleting the old setup and using the new package.

It is easy following the wiki.

Now I will try to add VLANs to manage different SSID.
