Most bandwith with Dynadish5

Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:01 pm

Hello forum.

I have 5km Dynadish link but it gives me only 150 to 250 Mbit speeds. I would like more. Currenty I am using 5500/20-eeCe/ac with 20/40/80 eeCe channel width. From reciever I can see Tx/Rx Rate: 780Mbps-80MHz/2S/SGI but when I speed test I get only 152/73 Mbps. During speedtest Tx/Rx CCQ is around 80% when idle it is 98% and signal to noise 54 dB. Latest Roureros 7.13 in installed. From frequency usage I see that i am the only user on 5500MHz. There is direct line of sight. And distance between is 5km.

Any ideas/feedback is greatly appreciated.

You did not specify the main parameter of the radiolink signal strength.
Let's go over the basic settings first
Show the TX/RX signal for each chane
Show the power that is set.
You are operating in the frequency range of 5450-5530 MHz. Are you sure there are no interfering stations in it?

First recommendation.
Set the guard interval long, for outdoor use, short is not suitable.

So attached is the screenshot of wlan1 Status. I hope you can see what you need.

Freq. Usage doesnt show any other users on that frequency.

Guard iterval is on "any" atm. So this should be "long"? Could you explain what does it affect since RouterOS configuration is new to me.

Btw CCQ goes to 80% when I do speedtest with ookla.

250mbit is as much as mikrotik will give you.
my dyna5 link is as good as it gets and goes 200-220mbit with -55dBm signal.

You still haven't specified the wattage at which your points operate.
According to the RBDynaDishG-5HacDr3 specification for maximum speed the power should not exceed 22dBm

I think it was mentioned somewhere that the old ROS driver has a 280Mbit limit.
These are the settings that increase the speed a bit.

Sorry I might have not understood the question, but yes Tx Power mode is set on default atm. Should it be 17 dB fixed or more?

I am asking because if the link goes down then it is difficult to go and get access.

In such a case, set the safety interval to long. The SGI abbreviation will disappear in the connection speed.
Check whether the CCQ should increase under load.
The rest, I think, should be left as it is.
There is a "Safe mode" button to avoid losing access. It should be pressed before you start changing settings. Read for yourself how it works.

Hello.

I have tried, but something weird is going on. Log does not show that wlan1 interface has dropped, but Pingplotter is pinging both ends of the 5km link and the dish at the end of the 5km link sometimes does not answer for 10 to 15 sec. It might be good for hours and then drops several times in a hour. Currently I am planning to go on UISP Airfiber 60LR with that long link. Atleast then i know that i could get the bw. Or does forum have any suggestions what else to check?

that's mikrotik ptp for you. you have these weird timeouts, right?
mine does that the same, i have a 8km link that's not really great but when IT FEELS LIKE working, it works OK (80-100mbit) but then it has bad day and it simply goes to shit (drop to 10-20mbit and full of timeouts without dropping the link). i'm almost rural, nobody near the frequency.
takes hours till it goes back to normal, or a reboot.

and now after reboot (and upgrade while i was at it) it works OK, it will work OK for some time and then go to shit again.

Idea:
script to check ping times and reboot when threshold has been passed ?

Does it have to be reboot ? Is disable/enable not already enough ?

not sure. a normal disconnection doesn't bring it back fully. i tried a lot of things, changing channel width, frequencies all over the band, but it behaves the same. sometimes works better with worse signal that with better signal (like right now). i even see 300mbit sync rates from time to time.
same antenna on a different link works perfect (perfect by mikrotik standards anyway).
not sure it would work better if i replaced only 1 side of the link with ubnt m5. i have a powerbeam laying around.

so yes, those micro-disconnects are PITA, as they don't really disconnect the link they just block traffic for a second or two. you can see the status "running" disappearing or blinking while the link collapses, but it won't disconnect fully.
and yes - it behaves the same with NV2, i tried, except with nv2 i get like 75% less speed than with 802.11.

So here is what i am dealing with (screenshot from pingplotter). IP 200 and 201 are the ends of PtP link.

I am currently running 7.13.3 on those Dynadishes. Should I update? Just asking because 1 of my SXT went into bootloop after 7.14 update.
