RB5009 reboots itself each 8-10 days (7.2rc3/rc4)

Thu Mar 10, 2022 2:43 pm

I have noted that every 8 to 10 days my RB5009 crashes and reboot itself.
in the logs I only see:
mar/10/2022 05:42:49 system, error, critical router was rebooted without proper shutdown
mar/10/2022 05:42:49 system, error, critical kernel failure in previous boot
does anyone have something similar happening?

Today I have migrated from my hEX S to the RB5009 and after couple hours of usage I got this same error:

kernel failure in previous boot

I am using ROSv7.1.3 Stable

I have two and have never had this issue.

Edit: running 7.1.3 because even that’s living on the edge.

Did you try it with basic config? I guess there are some in your config that fails.

Why, the device is a router, and I need it as a router. It is not a lab, I need it working as it is.
Also what is "basic config"? for me, basic is the what I need from it.
As I'm not alone on this, means that is not config.

I thought we was writing in the RC thread. Software that should only be used on routers in lab/test.

It may be a bug or it may be some wrong configured. Posting your config may help to get other to verify your configuration.

I don't think that is a misconfig, I migrated it from my RB4011, making the changes to match the interfaces on the RB5009. I'm suspecting a bug with OSPF, as it seems to happen after a OVPN client (that is connected via a crappy LTE) goes down or flaps, I've disabled OSPF and replaced the routes with static ones.

Now I need to wait to see if it will happen again or not.

My new RB5009 crashed within two days of installation. v7.2RC4 even on v7.1.3 it was same. Opened ticket with Mikrotik support but I have no hope.

Without seeing the config and information what is tried, its hard to help with anything.

So post config. Send supportfile to support@mikrotik.com

My 5009 crashed every few days, it stopped only after I upgraded all other mikrotiks in the network to >= 7.1 - in my case I believe it was a bug in the capsman or discovery protocol that went away when all systems used 7.x

Re: RB5009 reboots itself each 8-10 days (7.2rc3/rc4)  [SOLVED]

Now I am sure that the issue was related to OSPF and the OVPN client that is connected via LTE (an unstable one). after I replaced OSPF with static routes, the issue is gone and the router stayed up for ~25d, when I upgraded to 7.2 stable. did not tried OSPF again.

As it is related I've got same issue.
I have RB5009UPr+S+IN (the one is with PoE). Port 2.5Gb connected to Unifi 6E with own power, one port is connected to Unifi 6 Pro powered by device, + S+AO0005 (10Gb) installed into SFP to connect to PoE switch. For 4 month it worked perfectly with no issues, but suddenly started to do random reboots - sometimes in 2-3 days, sometimes 4-5 times per day. Load of CPU is up to 20%, mem 880 free from 1Gb.

First thoughts was it related to latest version 7.15 - I've tested on beta 7.16 and tested on 7.14 that was installed before reboots began.
Then I've replaced power adapter to another one - both use 48v up to 2A - it didn't help.
Next focus was on temperature - board ~68 degree, CPU ~48 degree, so I've added active usb cooler and it was lowered to 53 and 37, but also didn't help.
I also tried to lower CPU as it wasn't on high load at all.
Then I've replaced it back to my old RB4011 and it also started to reboot (!).
Now I've removed S+AO0005 from SFP and now testing it for restarts. <- will update this message in few hours/days

UPD: One more possible issue could be - https://community.bluettipower.com/t/eb ... le/23148/8 as due to russian aggression and a lot of destroyed electricity objects we have to use UPS, so to power Mikrotik I use EB3A, and there is a bug with it. I've changed configuration to use EB3A then APC UPS and then Mikrotik router, will check it...

i have the same problem but far worse. im on 7.15.3 and it reboots every few hours, nothing to do with load, temps or voltage. i have a bench psu powering it with extra safety features and out of random damn thing just reboots itself. its also new and been doing this. At first i thought PSU or tempts but even a peltier cooling it didnt help.

Mikrotik what have you done! you used to be ultra reliable. Worse still i had to reset config after networking issues which is why i upgraded my routerboard and it still didnt help. You would have months of uptime only to reboot for updates and updates would be stable.
You used to have upgradeable CCRs now your new CCRs are just not worth keeping when other arm options that can be upgraded exists.
changing firmware didnt help.

It's not each and every RB5009 - my two units have been running 7.15.3 for about a month now with no reboots, and many older versions before that. Both survived in hot places this summer (under the roofs, at two different locations) so I don't think it's a cooling issue, it must be something else.
