ZeroTier Version Upgrade

Thu Dec 15, 2022 11:21 pm

Is the ZeroTier package going to get an upgrade anytime soon? It is running the client version 1.6.6 which is over a year old and the current version is 1.10.2.

I am really surprised there haven't been any breaking changes since 1.6.6 is so old...

Certainly the are capabilities which are not being taken advantage of!!

I am currently running 7.6 of RouterOS..

Same question... ZT is now at 1.10.6 and incorporates new functionality since 1.6.6 and some significant path improvements/fixes. If ZT is not going to be regularly updated with new MT releases, then probably best just to remove it entirely from ROS. We can always run it in an container on some ROS architectures, albeit this is more complicated than a direct ROS package.

What say you Mikrotik?

We're on 7.16 and will be on 7.17 soon, yet the zerotier version is once again stuck on 1.10.3 ever since the upgrade in 7.9 ROS release. Given that there were some notable ZeroTier improvements as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/zerotier/comme ... 1_is_here/

When is the next upgrade planned? Or in case it isn't, is there any way I could build the package myself?

Thank you~

Ask support.
They are the only ones able to answer that question.
Please let us know if you get a response :D

And no, you can not upgrade yourself.

Or, perhaps read the release notes for 7.17:
*) zerotier - upgraded to version 1.14.0
Now since the config interface has not changed, RouterOS still supports only a sub-set of features. But certainly any protocol improvements in more recent ZeroTier versions would be in 7.17.

Tik should keep UpToDate with ZeroTier at every step ... one reason that I do not like this ZeroTier/MikroTik relationship is that Tik does not seem to want to keep up ... this is absolutely wrong..

Completely agree! I find it hard to understand why MT doesn’t enable the interface for all standard ZeroTier options that are available on every other platform except ROS.

I find it hard to understand whey anybody would even attempt to fathom MT thought processes........... By the way its all in the phantom roadmap. ;-)

Agreed. It's still in beta, one can hope.

I'm less concern about the specific version that RouterOS uses unless there are security issues... it's the lack of some config options (low bandwidth, bonding) that more problematic. But I don't mind RouterOS lacks the latest ZT - all software has bugs so some "lag" between ZT releases and RouterOS make some sense to me.
