CRS310-8G+2S+IN fan replacment

Thu Nov 02, 2023 5:16 pm

CRS310-8G+2S+IN is great however the fan is annoying

Is working on ~750 RPM (I have single sfp+) and is almost silent , however still I can hear some annoying "clicking" rotating noice
Is someone have idea for replacement with noctua or something similar ?

My crs310 is brand new and I prefer to wait at lease several weeks before open it but the problem is crs310 sit next to my laptop on my desk and this "clicking" noise literally kill my brain :D

I think that something from Noctua would be good replacement, this is 4 pin, i don't know if there is a 4 pin fan inside CRS but there is a 3 pin version also.

I replaced the fan with a Noctua NF-A40x20 but after some months, the fan stops spinning up when it should (it produces a clicking sound instead).
This doesn't seem like a good replacement fan for this model switch.

edit: nevermind, I found fan-min-speed-percent in /system/health/settings ;
now trying with set « fan-min-speed-percent=10% » to prevent fan lockup.

original part is -
DC Brushless Fan 40x28 12V (0.28A) 2ball (18.6CFM) 13000RPM 46dBA 70kh 150mm wire + 2.54mm 4pin
PIA040H12H-P17-AB

When considering replacing with Noctua fans - they are quieter, but usually due to lower CFM ratings.

Hi, i've also replaced all my CRS310 fan by the noctua 4pin.
And set in system heath the minimum speed at 50% to increase airflow.
