WiFi AX re-info country missing frequencies?

Tue Feb 25, 2025 11:27 am

Hello
I got a NetMetal AX, and I has been configuring it to be a Simple Wireless Access Point.
Then I select Country Sweden then I notice that the Frequencies range for the 5Ghz is very limited. you can see the output here:

/interface/wifi/radio/reg-info country=Sweden number=0
ranges: 2402-2482/20dBm/40MHz
5490-5730/30dBm/160MHz/dfs

Is this correct?
according to this info:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_W ... /ac/ax/be)
and this:
https://www.wiresandwi.fi/blog/wifi-cha ... tsi-sweden

I should have a wider range of Frequencies like from 5170-5835?

Am I wrong?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Which ROS version are you using ?

When I check on wAP AX (7.18rc2), I see this:
[xyz@wAP AX someplace] > /interface/wifi/radio/reg-info country=Sweden number=0
  ranges: 2402-2482/20dBm/40MHz
          5170-5250/23dBm/160MHz/indoor
          5250-5330/23dBm/160MHz/indoor/dfs
          5490-5730/30dBm/160MHz/dfs
          5735-5875/14dBm/80MHz
Apart from 3th line on 5GHz (which probably should start on 5470 ?), it's correct for Europe.

Hi
Thanks for the response,
Hardware: NetMetal AX
ROS and wifi-qcom: 7.18

I cannot understand why in mine are missing the following:
5170-5250/23dBm/160MHz/indoor
5250-5330/23dBm/160MHz/indoor/dfs

5735-5875/14dBm/80MHz

Could it be because it's a pure outdoor device ? Have you set configuration.installation=outdoor ?

Maybe best to direct your question to support.
They should be able to tell the reason or confirm if it is a bug for that device.

NetMetal AX is an outdoor device. https://mikrotik.com/product/netmetal_ax
--
Our toughest long-range outdoor access point – now with Wi-Fi 6!
--

From documentation: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/R ... 59120/WiFi
installation (indoor|outdoor; default:indoor) Devices installed outdoors will avoid use of indoor-only radio channels.
As NetMetal AX is an outdoor device, "installation" may default to "outdoor" in this case. You may need to explicitly set "installation=indoor" to unlock indoor frequencies. Give it a try.

And I just found out that field is missing from Winbox. Only accessible via CLI.

Hello guys
First thanks a lot for all your help and guidance!
It makes a lot of sense what you mentioned that is an Outdoor, but a bit sad not be able to change it to be indoor + outdoor I try the command
set configuration.installation=indoor for number 0 and number 1, it is added into de configuration I reboot the device but stills the same.

Maybe it is "hardcoded" while identify the hardware model
Thanks

In this case: better contact Mikrotik support directly. They should be able to clarify.

Hi
Thanks to all of you for helping me.
Support Answer is: this device is a Outdoor device so no way to make it Indoor to use those other frequencies. Even if you add in the config or CLI the Outdoor NO.
So only way to make it works is to use SuperChannel and then select the range of Frequencies something like this:
/interface wifi
set [ find default-name=wifi1 ] channel.band=2ghz-ax .frequency=2412-2472 configuration.country=Superchannel .mode=ap .multicast-enhance=enabled .ssid=XXXTest disabled=no mtu=1500 name=\
    wifi1-2Ghz security.authentication-types=wpa2-psk,wpa3-psk .encryption=ccmp,gcmp,ccmp-256,gcmp-256 .ft=yes .ft-over-ds=yes .passphrase=***** .wps=disable steering.rrm=yes .wnm=yes
set [ find default-name=wifi2 ] channel.band=5ghz-ax .frequency=5180-5825 .skip-dfs-channels=10min-cac configuration.country=Superchannel .mode=ap .multicast-enhance=enabled .ssid=XXXTest \
    disabled=no mtu=1500 name=wifi2-5Ghz security.authentication-types=wpa2-psk,wpa3-psk .encryption=ccmp,gcmp,ccmp-256,gcmp-256 .ft=yes .ft-over-ds=yes .passphrase=***** .wps=disable \
    steering.rrm=yes .wnm=yes
