Reselect-Interval with Capsman

Thu Mar 20, 2025 5:19 pm

Hi everyone, I have a doubt: I have 3 AC2 in a home environment of which 1 is a campsman server and the other two are CAPs. In the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz band in the Channel tab I set a specific frequency range and then I inserted under "Reselect Interval" 00:10:00 - 00:15:00; two questions: in this way it means that Capsman will take care of reselecting the least used frequency between ten minutes and fifteen minutes for all CAPs, correct? Second question: on the Help Mikrotik site I read in the "wifi" section that "reselect interval" works whether the frequencies are defined or not. In the "Capsman" section instead it is repeated that "reselect interval" works if the frequencies are not set. Can you confirm these things?

When the interval has passed (is this correct English?), the CAP will perform a background scan to check if the current frequency is optimal. It will reselect if there is a better frequency (and perform a DFS check from 1 to 10 minutes in addition befor activating) available.

It will choose a different frequency from which are available. This can be specified explicitly and depends on regulations.

Sure you want to have this checked every 10 - 15 minutes?

And from the documentation that you already have found:
Specifies when the interface should rescan channel availability and select the most appropriate one to use. Specifying interval will allow the system to select this interval dynamically and randomly. This helps to avoid a situation when many APs at the same time scan the network, select the same channel, and prefer to use it at the same time. reselect-interval uses a background scan.

The reselect process will choose the most suitable channel considering the number of networks in the channel, channel usage, and overlap with networks in adjacent channels. It can be used with a list of frequencies defined, or with frequency not set - using all supported frequencies.

hi, what you are reporting to me you took it in the "wifi" section. in the Capsman section it says the opposite and that is that if I set fixed frequencies, the reselct interval parameter does not work. from here I wonder if it is a typo of some old setting or in the capsman mode it is like this. regarding the low interval I think it could be fine, I live in a condominium with many wifi networks and it often happens that the channels are the same as other apartments
