Mikrotik hAP LTE6 as a travel router setup?

Sat Mar 22, 2025 1:01 pm

Hello,

I have a Mikrotik hAP LTE6 setup as a travel router and I power it via a power bank on the go.

I am not sure if something changed with the new updates but it seems I can no longer have a slave WiFi2 interface in AP mode while WiFi1 is the master in station mode and it connects to a WiFi network as a client, for example a hotel WiFi.

As soon as I enable the slave WiFi, the master disconnects and connects constantly and the slave also never comes up. If I disable the slave WiFi, master WiFi immediately connects to the WiFi network and I have internet via ethernet ports.

I could swear it was working before. Any ideas or advice if I am doing something wrong?

Just discovered this must be a bug introduced in one of the later versions, this is happening in v7.18.2

Just rolled back to 7.15.2 and it works fine.

I had a similar issue on a L009UiGS-2HaxD where the Wi-Fi uplink was also flapping. I think it was on 7.17.something, but for me it went away with 7.18.

Anyway, a work around that helped me was to set channel.band manually:
/interface/wifi/set [find configuration.mode=station] channel.band=2ghz-n
The downside being that you need to know what the infrastructure is, in order to set it correctly.

Coming to think of it, the device where I saw the issue is currently on 7.19beta6, so it might have been on 7.18 I had the issue as well. But if you feel adventurous, you can try 7.19beta :)

Thanks for the input but for now I think I'll stay with 7.15.2 to avoid any issues with my upcoming travel until I receive positive confirmation the issue has been fixed.

By the way, do you know what happened to the Connect List function in WiFi?

AFAIK connect-list is available on the wireless package for older devices, while when using the wifi packages it is not. It has been discussed earlier in other threads.

If/when this feature is brought to the wifi package, I’d love to hear about it <3

Nothing to do with this post but the hAP ax lite LTE6 powered off a power bank is just awesome. Can any other vendor's kit do this? AS long as it's not hammered, the power bank I've got can last nearly a day.

Yeah, I also use it whit powerbank. Whit 20000mAh capacity I also can use it about a day. Will depend on usage, and conditions. Also latest lte fixes, changes have improved stability.

I also use it with a power bank, no problems there. The problem is with connecting to a Wi-Fi as a client and then using that as a WAN. In the latest 7.18.2, the virtual Wi-Fi keeps causing the primary to disconnect as soon as enabled.

Well, no configuration has been posted, so not much to do but chat amongst ourselves.

I have a not-hAP (a map lite) running master and slave interfaces on 7.18, 7.18.2 as of yesterday, without a hitch, and had it also on an ax2 until I reconfigured it to 2.4 up 5 down a month ago.

@sk0003, please post your
export file=randomfilename
configuration. There is little anyone can do otherwise.
