Feature Request: Auto Supout on Ping Watchdog

Mon Mar 24, 2025 9:41 pm

It would be very useful to have this functionality. We have ping watchdogs setup on our routers to reboot in case of upstream failure. The 4011's currently have an unresolved bug causing port groups (1-5 or 6-10) to lockup randomly, and the ping watchdog eliminates a truck roll. But I feel like having an autosupout file from these reboots would likely help in diagnosing the problem on mikrotik's end, yet there is no autosupout generated with ping watchdog reboots.

No, the autosupout.rif does not generate one if it the "ping" part of watchdog. The supout.rif is only generated if the hardware watchdog timer expires.

But I agree with OP, that I'd like a supout.rif ALWAYS generated if it reboots the router. For example, it could reboot from high CPU or low memory & while monitoring might catch...a supout.rif from a "ping watchdog" would be useful since it might show that CPU/mem/etc/etc were 100%/0/etc.

FWIW, I know since I complained "ping watchdog" a while back that no supout was either a bug, or at least should be documented. And they added this note to the doc:
Note: Watchdog reboot is not a system failure. Such reboot also will not generate autosupout file. Watchdog reboot is "/system reboot" automatically triggered by operating system when some service is not responding as fast as it should. Reasons for that can vary between damaged hardware, slow software implementation for some service, DDoS attack, bad configuration and others.

Right, I never realized that the options were unrelated, even if in the same context, because I never needed it.

And it's a good thing you wrote it because I didn't remember that note... from 2007...

It's quite misleading, especially with the options next to each other in winbox.
