Troubles to add new CAP to my network

Fri Apr 25, 2025 8:45 pm

Hi guys,
after long time I decided to play a bit with my network by adding new device - cAP ax. My config is:

CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD as CAPsMAN
Groove A52-HPn as CAP
cAP lite AP as CAP
All running 7.18.2

I've connected new cAP ax (also 7.18.2) and was surprised there is no CAP config in Quick Set menu, so I might be missing something. It says only Home AP Dual. Went through some webpages and found out I have hold reset button for 10 seconds to get to CAP which I did. I went through this config, same I used years ago to make it work but I'm not succesful.
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/Manual:Simple_CAPsMAN_setup

And it doesn't work. On cAP ax it says only "no connection to CAPsMAN". So, what am I missing? Thx for help!

AX devices can't be controlled though "old"/wireless capsman.

You need to run wifi capsman which is available in 7.X

As you have a crs125 as capsman and cap lite as caps you will need both wireless and wifi capsman to controll all interfaces.

In 7.18 for example wifi capsman doesn't require driver's but wireless capsman does (the wireless package)

Thanks for quick reply and explanation. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to proceed now.
What are the steps I should make?

Well since you probably dont need 802.11 v/k/r you can use the "wifi" menu on your capsman device and provision your cap ax with that.

You will end up with 2 places to configure Wi-Fi at

I'm happy for any solution if it will work. Don't really know how to get there. Any chance you give me some guidance? I would appreciate that.

You essentially need TWO CAPSMANs running on the crs125.
The old one for the cap lite (which cannot be upgraded to the new wifi-qcom-ac), and the new one (under wifi) for the new cap ax.

Right now you have probably configured only the old one (for the cap lite), so you need to configure also the new capsman under wifi.

The new Cap Ax (set in CAP mode) cannot find any CAPSMAN because it looks only for the new one, which you have not (yet) configured.

For all it matters the old one (which is working) should be left alone, and the new one configured as if it was the only one, they are completely distinct AFAICU.

Thanks! I made it work. Most difficult was the part to find CAPsMan button in Remote CAP tab in WiFi. Then I struggled bit with enabling both cap-wifi, but now it works. I'm currious if this new piece of equipment resolved issues I had with signal coverage and stuttering of some games on PS Portal.
