SXT LTE6 Kit lte problem

Fri Apr 25, 2025 4:10 pm

Hello

I’m used hap ac^2 with usb modem and all was pretty fine. Now i bought SXT LTE6 Kit, put my SIM card from usb modem to new device. Mobile network connecting, signal is good/best but no IPs from mobile operator.
My mobile operator is Kyivstar.
Trying to change ipn, change ip type from Auto to IPV4 - nothing happens. I get ip on interface 254.128.0.0/32 (reserved ip) and no ping from SXT to internet.
Putting SIM card back to usb modem - all working fine. Please help to solve my problem.

You have to uncheck the "Use Network APN" box in APN dialog to use a APN name. Otherwise, the "Use Network APN" override what you set.

Kyivstar may use "www.kyivstar.net" from https://apn.how/ua/kyivstar-gsm#google_vignette as the APN name, but you might confirm that with kyivstar's website (i.e. you may need to "internet" as APN but "Use Network APN" unchecked) .

Some weird magic. I put SIM card of other mobile operator (Lifecell), i get normal IP address 10.160.107.49 but still no ping from SXT and from lan. When I uncheck Use network APN and set apn “internet” - lte interface start disconnectng every several seconds. I cannot understand what i do wrong ? :(((

When on Kievstar I unset Use network APN, setting different apns - every time i get wrong ip

P.S. Add default route is checked, ip->Routes route to 0.0.0.0/0 added dynamically to lte1

I imagine that the "Lifecell" SIM does work with the "Use Network APN" enabled, and most carriers do, and why that's the default. So that's what you should use for that SIM. And it dropping is because the APN is wrong for Lifecell once you disable Use Network APN.

WRT your "Kyivstar" SIM, you may have to ask them what the right APN is for your account. Since that does not seem to work with the "Use Network APN" enabled either. Perhaps some online portal for your SIM has the APN information for your specific account. In some case, carrier do implement some authentication that you may need to provide in the APN settings.

I check settings in usb modem and it my telephone. No additional authentifications, just apn “internet”. And why if I got IP from Lifecell - there is no ping to internet?

If you have not upgraded to 7.18.2, you really should do that first. See https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/R ... stallation .

If you're already running 7.18.2, make sure the LTE fireware is updated - that on the lte1 interface dialog. There also the firmware, which is in System > RouterBOARD, which may require a reboot.

If everything is already update-to-date, then can you post your configuration. You can do this via Terminal:
:export file=export.rsc
and the got to Files and download the export.rsc, and cut-and-paste the text here.

I have 7.18 already
Is 7.18.2 very critical upgrade?
Mi modem firmware is R11e-LTE6-V038

Another weird thing. I do all to let my Lifecell SIM working (change lte settings, down/up firewall, disconnect many time lte iface and so on) - nothing help. But I just reboot SXT (I do not this after change SIM from Kievstar to Lifecell) and its begin working. Ping appear from SXT, clients from lan start working. Strange. Never see that mikrotik devices needs reboot to start working properly.

JFYI, yours is the second report I see in two days about some settings change that did not work until the device was rebooted (the other report was about completely unconnected to LTE settings), and I have seen a few in the past, I just added point #23 to my list here:
viewtopic.php?p=1128345

I don't think it is specific to new versions of the RoS, it is something that seemingly just happens when it is deemed to happen, not often, but it happens.
As I see it rebooting is anyway something that needs to be done when testing, as you really want to make sure that the device will work after a (be it accidental or intentional) reboot that will anyway happen before or later, so it is IMHO just something to add to the checklist of things to do when setting a device.

Now I test it again. Put kievstar simcard, on default settings - getting wrong ip. Change apn and uncheck network apn, set ip only ipv4. Before reboot - does not working. Reboot - and it’s working ok. Maybe this will be fixed in future firmware releases.

Ideally you're not changing the APN or IP mode that often.... And a hard reboot or power-cycle force the modem to reinitialize with towers/etc. The LTE/5G modems are pretty complex inside , so there is a lot of state and stuff going on. 30 second reboot is often quicker than wonder if it's wrong APN or a bug.

(And since I do believe having RouterBOOT "BIOS" matching RouterOS is important... and in recent RouterOS auto-update=yes in /system/routerboard will upgrade the firmware on a reboot — in case someone forgot — thus suggesting an "extra" reboot can't hurt)

Is it one of the newer "refresh" LTE6 modems? While those have been modems seem to be pretty good... I have seen a disproportional number of "issues" with them in 7.18+ in forum.
