Too much traffic?

Tue Jul 27, 2004 4:58 pm

Setup
45 customers masqueraded behind 1 Public IP address
A few customers with static nats to other public IP addresses
A 3mb down 1 mb up connection
runs at about 50% capacity
spikes to 100%.

Problem
If I do 100 pings from our NOC router to a public site I will get about 16% lost packets. This is the same if I ping from any where on our network out to the Internet.

I do not get any packet loss going from our NOC to any device on our network.

I have setup a second MT with a backup of the configuration from our main NOC router. I changed the public IP address it uses and have both of them on our connection at the same time. I can ping from it with no packet loss. The only thing different is the amount of traffic passing through the router. All of the rules are the same. We even still have the same traffic going over our connection because the other router is still connected.

Any Ideas?

Do you have any queues configured on your NOC router?

Sounds like problems with an Ethernet port/cable/switch...
