RouterOS 5 beta

Thu Apr 01, 2010 7:40 am

To test early preview of Webfig, open browser at the address http://ROUTER_IP/webfig/

(use the trailing slash).
What's new in 5.0beta1 (2010-Mar-31 10:36):

*) updated drivers and kernel (to linux-2.6.32.5);
*) ssh is now completely rewritten (supports connection forwarding, only DSA keys);
*) added support for SSTP protocol (PPP over TLS);
*) added support for multiple Intel Ethernet cards;
*) added support for IPv6 over PPP
(enabled by default if ipv6 package is installed),
link-local addresses are assigned, and server can issue IPv6 global prefixes
to clients per ppp secret or RADIUS reply (Framed-IPv6-Prefix);
*) added proper support for MPLS over PPP (by default it is now disabled);
*) fixed RB800 temperature;
*) silentboot feature updated;
*) WinBox - any file dropped on WinBox will be uploaded to router;
*) multicast - fixed possible crash during PIM startup;
*) report platform name in "/sysrem resource";
*) fixed problem - vlans were not working on RB750 ether1;
*) fixed mac address handling on RB750, some specific arp requests did not work;
*) more than two dns servers allowed in /ip dns;
*) sniffer and torch could process packet from other interfaces;
*) ospf - fixed DR and BDR election;
*) ospf - changed "/routing ospf route" to show type 2 metric instead of
internal metric for type 2 external routes;
*) added IPv6 support to trafflow (v9 only);
*) rewritten user-manager (formerly known as userman-test);

Somehow USB does not seem to be working with 5.0 beta 1 on a RB433 UAH.

It doesn't matter which device i plug in (modem, flash disk, ...) it is not recognized in system resources usb, and umts modems also don't generate a serial port and ppp client.

So, is it possible that USB is completely broken in 5.0 beta1?

Hi,

Did that a few minutes ago, should already be in your ticketing system :)

Additional info:
I just did an upgrade from 4.5 to 5.0 beta1 with the usb modem attached during the upgrade.

after 5.0 beta1 boots up, the usb serial port is still recognized and working.
if i unplug/replug the usb modem, the serial port is not recognized anymore, and reboots do not fix it.

modem could be missing because of a driver change, but USB disks should definitely work

OK i just tried another usb flash stick and it works.
well, maybe the other one is broken.

I think the modem driver is still working, because if I upgrade from 4.5 to 5.0 and the modem is connected, it works normally after the upgrade until I unplug it for the first time, afterwards it is no longer recognized. well, maybe some strange hotplug issue...

The first flash drive worked in v4.x? If yrs, then plug it in the v5 and make the support output file and send it to us. Maybe you have a support output file from v4.x where that flash drive was working?

About the usb modem, after remover try to delete the port and reboot the device and check again. We will look into that issue.

Hi uldis,

no the first flash drive is now not working anywhere :)
Seems like a strange coincidence but it really looks broken now.

deleting the usb ports and rebooting does not bring the usb ports back by the way.

if you want, I can give you remote access to one of my RB433 until tomorrow, tomorrow I need to install it at a customer :)

Its a little sluggish. I like the original WinBox when it works really fast so I can do my job lightning fast and I can feel how fast it is, you know?

R52NH 433 AP, R52N 411 client.
Changing the AP to 10MHz or 5MHz mode apparently doesn't change the channel width. The CPE associates just fine without changing channel width and continues to move too much data for half and quarter channel.

MAC telnet, if you have something that connects to it layer 2 that you can reach. Otherwise it sounds like it's serial cable time.

I don't think it's a good idea to put the first public beta of a completely new release on something that you don't consider the equivalent of a lab device.

I put it on production routers some times so when the final is out - I know for 100% that it would work. And if it fails - I go and downgrade. But its a beta and not an alpha so it should be not so bad. It should work on 95% or more of the routers...

v5b1 WinBox: Remove the 1Gbps option from interfaces when the interface does not support it.

Also, on RB450G, it was selected 100Mbits but the status showed 1Gbps. So this speed setting does nothing? Maybe its because Auto negotiation was turned on. But then it should be a fourth radio (circle with dot) button instead of a checkbox. Hah. Hahaha.

It is still possible that a MT guy raises a ticket himself after seeing it here and testing it for himself. Normis checks the forums out often enough. I should send to the email but I am completely overwhelmed with work and so ... Besides, when people see the v5b1 weaknessess they could decide to test it themselves and therefore discover even more bugs, thats why I like the forums and to be open about it all.

I think, in 5.0beta1 is somehow broken dhcp-server. When i reboot, it is shown red in winbox and not working. Disable/reenable put it in a working order until next reboot. When downgraded to 4.6 everything worked. I tried to reset config and reconfigure whole router in 5.0beta, but it didn't helped..

here is export config:

/ip dhcp-server
add add-arp=yes address-pool=pool1 authoritative=after-2sec-delay \
bootp-support=dynamic disabled=no interface=bridge1 lease-time=3d name=\
dhcp1
/ip dhcp-server config
set store-leases-disk=5m
/ip dhcp-server network
add address=10.12.0.0/22 comment="" dns-server=10.1.2.192,10.32.0.5 domain=\
mag-net.sk gateway=10.12.3.254 netmask=22 wins-server=10.1.2.192
add address=10.12.20.0/22 comment="" dns-server=10.1.2.192,10.32.0.5 domain=\
mag-net.sk gateway=10.12.23.254 netmask=22 wins-server=10.1.2.192
/ip address
add address=10.12.0.128/24 broadcast=10.12.0.255 comment="" disabled=no \
interface=bridge1 network=10.12.0.0
add address=10.11.0.130/24 broadcast=10.11.0.255 comment="" disabled=yes \
interface=wlan2-link network=10.11.0.0
add address=10.12.4.254/24 broadcast=10.12.4.255 comment="" disabled=no \

add address=10.12.23.254/22 broadcast=10.12.23.255 comment="" disabled=no \

do you see any logical problem here?

My DHCP servers are working but they dont have add arp

I see you have /22 and so on - check the addresses with a subnet calc again just to be sure :)

I just discovered that in User Manager it does not count the Active Sessions right. What are those supposed to be anyway? For example one RB450G had earlierl 4 A Users and 0 A Sessions (after db rebuild and logoff and logon). And another x86 had them right. Aha I got it - when logged in with a "Customer" with Full (as opposed to owner) privileges - current number of A Sessions do not show (show as 0).

I need my "Customers" with Full privileges to see the number of A Sessions.

By the way, when I add users through the console, I need to logout and relogon to see them in usermanager web interface?

How do you know he will not ? :) Why do you say "for me" its not for me :) it's for their profit out of their product :)

p.s. the tickets via email has a purpouse of getting a supout and keeping a track of users via their email. MT dont need these to check the beta and fix it.

How do you know he will not ? :)
Because if you check his posts around the forum, he always asks people to raise the ticket with support@mikrotik.com, as most of the developers don't read this forum and I know from experience, that posting here doesn't get bugs fixed.

Posting here only helps you establishing an issue by interacting with other Mikrotik users.

It seems working here. Nobody has phoned to complain and the PCQ counters are moving etc etc. I can see it in WinBox that stuff is as normal .. ?

What problems exactly do you have with SSTP client? Did you contacted support about that problem?

PCQ seems working still. If you give me login I will look at yours.

-> Userman in the Beta works slooooow when I change the IP address (in Constraints)
-> My partner added a Bridge to the second PPPoE Server in the LAN and some VLANs disappeared from WinBox but they were still passing traffic. A reboot and WinBox went to normal.

/system watchdog
Just careful with what you are setting up there, you can end with endlessly rebooting router (eg, enter wrong ip address to check)

No, too complicated to explain. :)

Download this CD image and install, then upgrade to the latest beta.

Just wondering if the v5 stable release will have support for IPv6 compatible versions of any of the following:

- ssh access to mikrotik
- winbox access to mikrotik
- support for ipv6 records in /ip accounting
- support for ipv6 based queue rules and/or queue tree

If this isn't exactly the right thread to be asking this I'll move it, but it seemed the best of the v5beta ones. ^_^

None of those features are in the beta, so I reckon that'll be unlikely, unless you start opening tickets for it.

Thanks for that, tested and confirmed, queue tree (not simple queue) supports ipv6 traffic (as marked under the ipv6 firewall).

Many people downloaded my install cd for vmware. Not a single complaint yet, so I guess it works for those people who downloaded it. However, it would be of interest if anyone could confirm if it was useful for anything else than vmware installations. I read somwhere that this issue also ocurred to some computers (i don't really remember where I read it).

Did you try with the supplied v5 beta 1,2 iso above? Did you try with v4.9 iso? Did you try with NetInstall over bootp? Did you try with NetInstall over a floppy? Did you try to touch some configs for the IDE/SATA controller in BIOS? Did you update the BIOS? I always needed to update Intels sh!t. If you cant use onboard IDE/SATA - use USB.

Hi. Probably my own stupidity...
I recently upgraded the routeros on my RB333 from 2.9 to 3.30 and then to 4.10 because the 3.30 that was installed had no user manager. After installing 4.10 I noticed that radius and the user manager could not communicate with each other anymore. The I installed routeros 5 beta 2 but the problem still persists. Radius has been set up on the RB333 for ppp and the ip address is 127.0.0.1 with a secret and the usermanager is also on the RB333, here I added the router with ip=127.0.0.1 and the same secret. When I try to connect the ppp I get an error telling me that the radius server timed out. Does anyone have any advice for me please???

Seems that IRQ balancer & PCI MSI are not pretty stable.
I'd also read about memory usage problem in Beta 3.
I need to decide what to use. Really need MSI , but looks that B2 is more stable.

Re: RouterOS 5 beta

Fri Jul 09, 2010 11:04 pm

I have been doing some testing with 5.0beta4 and have had great success. I see a definite speed improvement in testing especially on the upload side. To give some background we have always been a Cisco shop, but I have been working hard to change the views of my colleagues. Little by little we are changing, at least the wireless side, over to Mikrotik using Ubiquiti radio cards. I now have all of the backhaul radios switch over to Mikrotik and have started to replace the CPE with Mikrotik as well. Unfortunately my APs are still Cisco 1240AG Series Access Points (feel free to bash) running IOS 12.3(7)JA3. In our configuration each user has a VAP, a VLAN and a 2 /30 subnets. One /30 is private and used for management, the other is a static public IP. I had a situation come up and needed to replace a CPE so I grabbed one of my 411AH boards that I had been testing on our internal wireless network, which is all Mikrotik, and went out to the customers. The Mikrotik connected up like a champ, but I could not pass any traffic. The MAC showed up in the Cisco bridge table, but even after clearing the ARP on the 3560 switch I could not see anything coming from the Mikrotik. No MAC no ARP no nothing, but I did have a great connection. I tried several different configurations but with no luck at all – puzzling since I have them working in other locations. As a last resort I downgraded from the 5.0Beta4 to 4.10 and bam everything was worked and as usual was out performing the previous CPE, which was not a Mikrotik. I’m not sure what was wrong, other than the version, and had a customer breathing down my neck to get them back online. I wish I had more information that would help, but I had to get the customer back up and running. It is not a problem currently, but some of the speed improvements I am seeing in a lab setting are impressive and would love to be able to move to 5 when it is released.

I've been running 5 beta 2

The webfig is important to me because these boxes would be going out to people running Windows, Mac or Linux.

I'm trying to create a PPTP client through the + sign on interface. Everything comes up and I put in the information but when I hit Apply or OK button, it just says "waiting for 192.168.88.1" in the bottom left corner of the webpage and never applies the new settings. I've used both Chrome and Firefox. I'm trying to program it through the web interface and am using a Ubuntu desktop.

I can get the interface created through WinBox but need to be able to program through the web interface.

Any ideas?

Well because it's much more convenient that way. You could easily jump to virtually any computer (or a phone), they all have web browsers nowadays, open a webfig in your browser, call a terminal and execute commands. Everything is there. And since now we have lots of nice technologies like AJAX, thats not that difficult to achieve either. I'm not sure, but I think there are some AJAX terminals already, they are mostly used in VDS control environments.

Since the SSH rebuild in ROS 5 does it fix the issue that caused connectbot on Android to not be able to login via SSH? cos if that's still a problem then webfig terminal is a must
