PPTP does not work without firewall turned on

Fri Aug 26, 2011 5:01 pm

L.S.

I configured the PPTP server and I am able to connect if the firewall is turned off. When the firewall is turned on it doesn't. I have a similar mikrotik where the PPTP server DOES work with the firewall turned on. I copied the firewallrules from the mikrotik where it does work but on the other it still doesn't work. My config:

Can someone explain to me what else I need to do so I can make the PPTP server work when the firewall is turned on?

Thanks in advance!

add action=drop chain=input comment="default configuration" disabled=no in-interface=ether1-gateway
add action=accept chain=input disabled=no dst-port=1723 protocol=tcp
add action=accept chain=input disabled=no protocol=gre
You need to put the two allow rules for GRE and tcp port 1723 before the drop rule.

Hi Netrat,

You are completely right and after removing the rule and adding it again it works.

The strange thing here is that in the winbox application I was unable to sort the rules and as you can see it did not automatically put the drop rule on the bottom. So I think I found a bug there.

It works now. Thanks :)

I am sorry to call my stupidity a bug, as it is now clear for me that I can drag the rules....

Thanks again for the quick help and for staying nice to this noob :)
