Is CCR tile support affected by missing Linux support?

Tue Apr 03, 2018 1:17 pm

As the subject states, Linux foundation decided to drop support for Tile-architecture to save a few hundred thousands lines of code. As the CCR devices and maybe others also, seem to be based on this architecture, and RouterOS seems to be based on (some kind of) Linux distribution, does the latter impact the first in terms of long-term support and updates?

I think the real answer has to be yes.
If I were Mikrotik, I would move to ARM by now.
And thats what they will do.

No.
Support is not affected.
New products could be affected if only Mikrotik would decide to develop new devices based on Tilera.

I agree Mikrotik should move as much as possible to ARM.

Mikrotik CCR is the only commercial use of the Tile architecture I am aware of :(

That's why MikroTik introduces the multiple core IPQ401X products like cAP ac and hAP ac^2. Also perhaps, they may develop products using Intel multiple core CPU like Apple does.

Mikrotik have clearly stated they do not use the drivers from the Linux kernel for Tile. They have used their own code for this.
If you take time to read responses the. You will quickly understand.
