There are no SwOS firmware version with an option to configure default gateway, but RB250GS can be remotely configured without VPN. It simply sends out replies to the same source IP, MAC and port where it received configuration packets from.

we would well welcome the default gateway option - since we would like to monitor those device remotely from a central location.
Thanks!

It is already possible without default gateway option.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but how is it possible? We have 2 Mikrotik SXT-5HNDs and we would like to manage them remotely. At this time, we can only access them when the pc is on the same VLAN or connected to the same switch.

Yes, it is possible to manage RB250GS remotely.

I think I have figured it out.
I just added a default route pointing to the gateway. Is this the correct way of doing it?

I guess the RB260GSP depends upon the router supporting proxy arp. My routers don't do that by default and I am reluctant to enable that feature for security and other reasons.
It would be sooooo much easier if the RB260GSP's IP interface was configured like the 100's of other devices I manage.

Wow! New post on a 9 year old thread.
I have never had any trouble configuring a SwitchOS device from either the same LAN, a different LAN on the same router, or some remote location. As stated earlier in this thread, it just sends traffic back from the same place that it got it. It just works without doing anything special.
