Mikrotik switch functionality for model choosing (+) .

Mon Sep 20, 2021 11:27 pm

I am a begginer in Mikrotik world.
I plan to switch from *-link switches to Mikrotik switch.
I need 12+ cooper 100Mbit/1Gbit switch ports with the following parameters/functionality:
1. desirably unit 19 inch case;
2. desirably LCD;
3. fully hardware processing switching;
4. turning on/off each switch port separatelly from others - for example 3 and 5 port are necessary to turn off, others must be up;
5. change port speed/MDI each switch port separatelly from others - for example 2, 4 pors are necessary to set up to 100 Mbit, 5 to 1Gbit, others are to auto pseed;
6. show each port status at banner or other graphical view, such as at Web UI of *-link devices;
7. radius server support - send to the server a client port number, mac, the switch IP and other possible info including Vendor specific attributes;
8. DHCP options 82, 12 and others;
9. VLANs
10. hardware monitoring - at least temperature, other values are desirable;
11. cable testing and lenght measurement.

Are there models meeting all conditions or some only ?
If some. which is/are of them ?
Thanks in advance.

I use the CRS328-24P-4S+RM for everything =)

Answers to your Question
1. desirably unit 19 inch case;
Yes , its 19" Rackmount

2. desirably LCD;
No, most if not all new Mikrotik Switches don't have LCD's anymore.

3. fully hardware processing switching;
I don't know what "fully" hardware processing means...
But you can find an overview of all supported Hardware-Offload feature for both L2 and L3
-> https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ ... Offloading
-> https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ ... s+switches[/b]

4. turning on/off each switch port separatelly from others - for example 3 and 5 port are necessary to turn off, others must be up;
Yes, RouterOS even has the ability to use Scripts and Scheduler to automate any turning on/off

5. change port speed/MDI each switch port separatelly from others - for example 2, 4 pors are necessary to set up to 100 Mbit, 5 to 1Gbit, others are to auto pseed;
Port-Speed can be set manually or via Auto-Negotiation

6. show each port status at banner or other graphical view, such as at Web UI of *-link devices;
RouterOS has the same GUI for all Device (Switches, Router, Hostet, ect..)
If you want to see the Mikrotik Web-UI, you have two options.
You can create a virtual Maschine and install RouterOS for Free or Mikrotik Online-Demo's you can login to.

--> http://demo2.mt.lv/

7. radius server support - send to the server a client port number, mac, the switch IP and other possible info including Vendor specific attributes;
do you mean dot1X ?
--> https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Dot1X

8. DHCP options 82, 12 and others;
As a DHCP-Server or Client ?
Both can have custom DHCP-Options... never tried option12

9. VLANs
Yes and vlan filtering
-> https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ ... VLAN+Table

10. hardware monitoring - at least temperature, other values are desirable;
Yes

11. cable testing and lenght measurement.
I don't know...
