strange 30s timeout on normally routed subnet (all protocols?)

I'm experiencing a strange timeout for apparently all protocols after about 30s.

My topology is:
LAN (192.168.1.0/24) --> Mikrotik [ 192.168.1.111 ->> 192.168.88.0/24 ] --> 88.0 subnet hosts
I have `ssh` ports for some hosts in the `88.0` net also forwarded via port-forwarding.

If I now contact a host via `ssh` via the normal static route, the connection hangs after approximately 30s (this is reproducible every time +/- approx. 3s):

admin@192.168.88.12's password:

Doing the same via the port forward works as expected:

I have the same issue with e.g. web services on the `88.0` net, which respond correctly to requests within 30s, but hang afterwards.

Any idea? Is there some kind of default DDoS protection or timeout in play, which I have to explicitly reconfigure?

EDIT After a complete reset (i.e. also without default firewall rules), I can reproduce the behaviour after defining a bridge with all ports for the 88-subnet and adding the routes. I can normally ssh into hosts on the subnet, and even ssh back, but after about 30s the connection invariably hangs.

would anyone have an idea where to start looking/troubleshooting?

My router is now just eating dust and the subnet is temporarily part of the main LAN, but obviously I need to solve this if I want to use the Mikrotik in any productive way in my setup...

Could be a number of things but it’s sort of hard to say without a better sense of your configuration and the full topology. Even then, I would probably be collecting packet captures and manually trying to inspect what’s happening both on the 88 LAN and the 1 LAN. If you have some more information I can maybe help add an extra pair of eyes.
