DSL question - can I use DSL to Ethernet adapter to connect to Mikrotik router?

Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:07 am

Hello,

Basically I have zero knowledge about DSL (I live in a country where DSL is not used like at all), but I will be setting up the network where DSL is used.

  • Can I purchase "DSL to Ethernet" adapter from Amazon/Ebay/AliExpress and it would simply work?
  • How does router/modem, connected via DSL, gets IP? Via DHCP from ISP (or it can simply be static)? Is there some sort of authorization/authentication mechanism when using DSL? What else should I know?

Any help would be appreciated.

xDSL requires a modem, sounds like the adapter you referring to isn't (but perhaps you can share link?).
Normally a provider will provide you with the required equipment (together with authentication information) and there is no necessity to buy own hardware.

Often it is possible to configure a modem in bridge, where you get your public IP on the MikroTik.
