initial config of hex possible using wi-fi, no cable?

Sat Oct 16, 2021 2:10 pm

Hey, I only have my MacBook and my mobile for configuration. Any chance I can proceed with the initial setup?

I tried connecting to the IP the hex got by DHCP when using port 1. It was pingable, but I couldn't connect with admin/empty.
When connecting the hex to the wi-fi router using port 2, it didn't get an IP at all

Thanks a lot in advance!

When you buy a new Mikrotik-Device, it will have a "Default" config.

Default Config (simplified) :
Ether1 = WAN (DHCP-Client,Firewall)
Ether2 thru Ether5 = LAN (DHCP-Server)

So trying to connect via ether1 is pointless.
Try using the MAC-Address (Telnet or Winbox) via Ether2-5

If that fails you will need to connect your laptop directly to the HEX.

Hey, thanks for your answer. I finally managed to use my home server as a bridge to the existing wi-fi network and thus use wi-fi for the initial setup.
