Mikrotik Router on BTnet Leased Line

Tue Nov 30, 2021 8:16 pm

Hi

I have a wires only leased line with BTnet (in UK) and they have provided some IPs to use for my router that won't work with my MikroTik router. But they work fine with Cisco and configured just on my lapotop network adapter.

They have provided me a public subnet /29 range and a next hop address of 109.144.74.145

I expect to have the /29 subnet on what would usually be the LAN side of the router and the WAN interface 109.144.74.145/31 with the default gateway of 109.144.74.144. I have confirmed with their tech support that this is correct.

I'm not initially worried about the /29 subnet, but I am struggeling to configure the WAN interface. When I configure it as described the MikroTek report the route is "unreachable".

I have tried with another router (a Cisco Meraki) and also just configuring my laptop with those WAN details on its network interface and both work fine.

I suspect the issue is that the address used as the default gateway is the Network ID for the subnet and not normally considred a valid host address on the subnet, but this is what I am given and can't change it.

Is there something I can set on the MikroTik to fix this? am I missing something?

Thanks
