Has a RB4011 some hardware/sofware bugs now?

Tue Nov 30, 2021 10:52 pm

Planning to buy RB4011. But saw there was the topic about people met with regular freezes of the device (viewtopic.php?t=149062).
Is the situation is still there? Or it's cured already and I could buy this machine safely?

Recommendation to buy any appliance should be based on your requirements. There is nothing wrong iwth the RB4011 but I would invest in the RB5009 a newer product and around the same price point........ better value for money.

We have about 30 pcs of RB951 and Hex's in branches with various tunnel protocols (from ppp to clean ike2). Not ready to make core router on 5009 due to OS v7 only, inspite of 5009 has better hardware against 4011.
The messages on the topic I linked in this post are kinda fresh (august/october 2021). And nobody knows the exact reason of the freezes as I see there.

The last person complaining about RB4011 freezing is running ROS 6.47.10 ... which is rather old. While it's generally fine, very stable release, it's old for RB4011, which is by itself not that old and AFAIK some work had been done regarding stability in more recent ROS versions.

6.47.10 is a previous long-term OS. It was actual release before October,8th, when current long-term release (6.48.5) was rolled out.
The topic started at 2019. There was a lot of releases since, and people have been complaining 2 years.
So I really want RB4011 and found it's perfectly fitted for our infrastructure, but the lack of sureness about these freezes stops me now.
I guess I should try to ask the Q in that topic. Maybe somebody who had complained there will get a notification and give some actual info.

If the chip shortages continue it may be hard to find RB4011s in the future and support will last longer for RB5009, are other considerations. I do agree that fielding OS7 is really not feasible at the moment for businesses.
