CRS106-1C-5S - SFPs temperature > 80°C

Tue Dec 07, 2021 4:06 pm

Hello everyone!
I installed a CRS106-1C-5S switch with 5 MikroTik SFPs, but the temperature of the SFPs unfortunately is very high. Yesterday one of the links was shut down and was restored after we restarted the switch. I'm concerned that it might be because of the temperature.
Do you have experience with such temperatures in that switch?

Search internet for "SFP temperature" presents a number of articles discussing the matter. And it boils down to this: if SFP temperature is outside specified limits, the link will likely fail, in case of high transmitter temperature also damage to receiver can happen. Temperature range for "commercial" modules is 0°C-70°C and most (if not all) cheap modules fall in this range.

Which explains why actively cooled switches ramp up fan RPM when module temperature approaches 70°C.
